As a child my grandmother told me that I should pray that prayer everytime I closed my eyes no matter where I was...she is now gone to a heavenly place looking down on me and I hope she's still proud of me because I pary this still every night.

I did, but must admit, I didn't know much about it, as I was raised a heathen. It wasn't until late in life, that I really understood what prayer truly was. I was saved at the age of 59, and my life has been so much different now. I was delivered from alcohol and nicotine, which were my Gods up to that time. Now I know the true meaning of God, Jesus, The Spirit and Salvation. What a wonderful difference, both in feeling and spirit. Praise the Lord. I must admit that somewhere along the way in my youth, the seed was planted, but it took so long to take root. I must have been part of the stony ground that Jesus spoke of.

I used to pray

Now the day is over
Night is drawing nigh
Shadows of the evening
steel across the sky

God bless mammy
God bless dadday
and everyone I could think of -

I would kneel by my bed and pray each night.

The memories I have is feeling sad that the day was over, but feeling secure that God was with me, and that I had a nice warm bed to cuddle up with my teddy bear, and have a good night's sleep.

Even though my new life change didn't come until I was grown, I can still remember back when there was those times when I would pray to God in general and I thank Him for giving me those memories =)

Not many. I remember feeling like I was going through the motions. Now when I pray I feel in contact with God because instead of mindlessly reciting someone else's words I speak directly to God about what is in my heart and my mind.

Well, I didn't repeat rote prayers, but I did express what was in my heart. My prayers as a child laid the groundwork for a relationship with God that helped me strengthen my testimony later. I prayed then, and I pray now.

Never as a child I was though to pray that way, I consider that a repetition, and God dislike repetitions. I was though to pray for everyone, and for forgiveness of sin.

But I know what you mean. It is a cute prayer for a child.

That you prayed! What else. Thats the memory!

Our father in heaven
hallowed be thy name
thy kingdon, come
thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Please give us this day, our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
From the power of the glory forever....
Amen!

I did pray when I was a child.

I prayed that my parents wouldn't hit me and it didn't work. I prayed that President Kennedy would survive and it didn't work. I prayed that my brother would survive his injuries (auto accident) and it didn't work.

Is there a pattern? I think so. Empirical evidence suggests that prayer is pablum.
