For the past two years everytime we have travelled to NY my 12 year son is detained by immigration. we have to wait for up to three hours in a seperate room and can never find out why. We are getting nervous about trip next week. Any helpful answers as to why this happens. My passport is fine?

(1) Your son might share the same or similar name as someone on the anti-terrorist watch list.
(2) He had tested positive for tuberculosis or some other infectious disease in the past.
(3) His passport is not in order, or contains a stamp/marking of another country that is on the U.S. watchlist.

He probably shares his name with a known criminal but, considering he is a child, I'm surprised that they are allowed to interview him alone. I'd want this investigated further and would go to my MP (councilor/sentator?) as well as write to Immigration to find out more. And if that doesn't work then write to your local press to see if they can find an answer for you. It's really not acceptable for a child of his age to be seperated from his parents with no explanation.

It may be that he has the same name as someone on their "watch list". Even though he's a kid they probably have to go through the whole ordeal or lose their jobs.
