Mt. Rainier is aroound Seattle, WA. For those who are familar with it, the trail will be Camp Muir trail, about 10mile round trip, starting at 5000 ft, with the highest point around 10000ft. There is going to have some snow in the second half of the trail. Will regular day-hike boots do? I'll have a pair of trekking poles with me too.

Should work. Just make sure they are weather proof, and that they guard the ankles.
