Since the price of gas is so high what do you think about fining any purchaser of an SUV or any other gas guzzling vehicle that is not being used for a occupational purpose? Just a question but im sure there will be some political know-it-alls who will have their condescending comments anyway.

Well....ok, as long as the SUV owners agree to pay those outrageous prices for gas, they just keep feeding the fire. Buy more, charge more, and vice versa. There are SOME of us out here who are doing our part to conserve as much as possible. I really can't afford to pay upwards of $60 per week for gas. I do well to fuel my little Civic at $25 or so per week. I don't make needless trips in and out....I stop on my way to or from work.

I don't know about a special fine for the SUV / large car owners because I know some actually DO need bigger vehicles...but if everyone else would conserve too, then maybe the prices would go down...at least a little.

They are already being fined in paying more for the gas they use. Not everyone who owns an SUV can get by without one. I have 4 kids in carseats, live in the mountains and use 4WD often. A car or minivan simply will not make it here. We also pay more in taxes generally since taxes are based on the selling price and value of the vehicle.

The more gas I buy the more money goes into the tax system and there by giving us better roads to drive on. So if anything we should fine the ones not using as much gas as me so they contribute their part in taxes.

When you take inflation into account and the cost of the dollar the highest prices we have paid for gas compared to income was in the 80’s followed by the 50’s.

This is really about what the market will bear. I own a Honda CRV, a mid-sized SUV at best and frankly, the price I pay at the pump is enough of a fine for owning my vehicle. As long as people are willing to pay $75 to fill up their Yukons and Expeditions there really isn't a reason to fine them.

Wouldn't 'high gas prices' amount to a fine for driving any vehicle with low gas mileage? No need to add another.

Well, if you fine SUV owners, you should start fining smokers for polluting the air. Maybe fine the "bass head" kids for polluting the air with their loud music. Maybe start fining the people who own old cars because they don't have the greatest emission standards. Maybe fine those people who own diesel automobiles because the diesel emits worse emission.
Don't attack the user, attack the distributor. If the rich oil tycoons weren't being so damn greedy, we wouldn't be in this situation.

Why fine only SUV owners? Most of the are homemakers that require a van or SUV in order to transport their children comfortably. How are fining Lincoln drivers, or Jag drivers, or Caddy drivers, or 18-wheel drivers, etc????????????????

Maybe have owners of gas guzzlers should have to pay a special tax every year, and make it an outrageous amount to deter the purchase of these gas guzzlers.
