Actually, it is safe.
Try it!! Take a small amount of gasoline and put it on the ground. Place a cigarette in that small puddle. The gasoline will actually put out the cigarette. The cigarette does not emit enough heat to ignite the gasoline.
Don't believe me? Try it yourself.

I'm not going to call you names... I don't agree with that.... everyone has questions and everyone should answer someone elses question with the same respect they would want there own answered...
Okay don't smoke after you spilled gas on yourself okay?
and don't throw the piece of fabric in the gas. you will have to wash the fabric by hand in a sink with warm water and lots of soap several times. don't put it in the dryer either.
After you've washed it 2 or 3 times then put it in a load of perhaps other greasy things like kitchen towels. when you're done you can finally dry it.
Never put something like that in a load or in the dryer right off. this is a good way to ensure you will have a fire. be case the gas off the fabric will seep into the other clothing and then probably catch on fire as soon as you put it in the dryer.
And defiantly don't smoke around it until after you have taken every pro caution.
Hope everything works out... and be safe!

It wont do nothing, well i am not that sure, but it depends on how long ago you did it, and if it is in your clothing. The only way it could ignite is if it is still wet (on your clothes) or if there are enough fumes to strat it but i think that has to be aloooot of fumes to start the fire. I dont know for sure but let me know.
Actually my boyfriend worked on cars and got gas on him all the time and would clean paint off his hands with gas and he smokes all day
I promise you are fine because nothing ever happened to him and he would dump it on him

Nope.
Go watch the movie "The Late Great Waldo Pepper."
By the way, smoking is never safe, and is never a good idea. Quit now. The life you save may be your own -- or your child's.
