Please give me good tips for a very nervous first time flyer.
The flight is about 5 hours long.

bring some headphones. Either the noise cancelling ones, or you can bring some headphones to preoccupy yourself with music. They may also show a movie, in which you'll need headphones.

Maybe take some dramamine, or have some alcohol to ease your tension (don't mix!). Maybe a sedative. I hate flying, but it's not that bad, really. Roller coasters turn your stomach much more.

Get ready for some recycled air.

Most first timers ask for windows so you can have fun watching out the window - if you are afraid of hieghts book an aisle (middle is crowded so avoid that seat). If you are really nervous bring a good book (if you read) or a dvd and a laptop with headset (you can turn it on shortly after take-off - they tell you when it's OK). They will aslo play a movie - so buy headsets if you want. This will make the time pass by quickly. Best if you travel with a friend - you can talk and play cards etc. Find out if a meal is served or not and eat appropriately (they serve meals for $10 on board).

Take off and Landing are the only two times when you feel acceleration and the plane angling up/down left/right. 99% of the flight is boring. It is a piece of cake.

Bring a good book, chew gum when the plane is taking off and landing and now that planes are a safe way to travel. Have fun on your trip.
