Certain people at my work (urban) ask for free stuff, and I give it to them with no fuss. I feel like I "owe" them, and my co-workers say I am falling for nbs. What should I do?

ok...I guess I am not clear...I give away free food to black customers because I feel bad about their "situation", and my co-workers say they are playin' me.

I also live in an urban area. No, you don't owe anything to them and yes, you probably are being played. Trust your co-workers' opinions. If you want to continue giving to these people, that's okay. But know that you are being played. To really help these people, find ways to give them hand-ups instead of hand-outs. Give them the opportunity to be independent. Find out where they can go to find work and let them know. Help them to become independent so that they may in turn help others.

Young person,
Protect your job and your reputation. On the job, you must be professional. If you do not own the company, do not give away anything unless the company has approved this.
If you are working directly with people, providing good service with a friendly attitude and unfailing courtesy is the the best gift you can give anyone who comes into the door. If you want to give away stuff, do it on your own time with your own stuff.
Volunteer for organizations that provide help for people or maybe see if you can be a Big Brother. You are on the right track learning by experience. I think it's called the school of hard knocks. We all go through it. Best of luck.

Where do you live? Why do you feel like you owe something to black in particular? Have you been especially mean to blacks in the past? Did you do something hurtful to blacks?
I think that if you are working for someone, you shouldn't be giving away anything for free unless you boss is okay with it. You may get in trouble. If you want to feed the homeless, do it with you own money or with your bosses permission. Don't allow people to use you.

It is wrong to give something that does not belong to you. On the other hand, if you are giving away something that you do own then it's ok because it is yours to do as you please. If giving it to them relieves your feeling of owing them something, then you are sort of getting something back in return...the feeling that you're making good on your debt. Eventually, if these people continue to ask for free stuff, then you will feel that your "debt" has been repaid and you will begin to resent them. That is when you will stop.

Why do you feel that you "owe" them? Did you steal it from them to begin with? Maybe you should look at the deeper issue here.

Oh please. Get over it. You are sooooo falling for bs. You don't "owe" anyone anything unless you personally have done something to put them in their situation (which I HIGHLY doubt you have).

If you think you are doing a kind deed then follow your intuition. Don't let others sway you.
