Doesn't look like you need any additional answers, but I'll add mine. I'm with you. I think they better understand atheists turning to religion than they understand christians turning away from it. The thing about religion, the thing about things in general, is that some people need some things and other's don't. They see needing God like needing air. I see needing God like needing a diaper in that when you can trust yourself to control yourself you no longer need it. Occasionally people may get drunk, or may be having a little to much fun laughing too hard and have an accident and they feel they may need the diaper again.

Christians realize that EVERY Christian used to be an atheist. Christians know that when a person defies the living God in word or deed, they are practicing "practical atheism". That means that they are acting as if God did not exist, because if they were acting as though he does exist, they wouldn't dare sin against Him because he has all justice and authority to strike them dead and cast them into hell at any moment.
Christians also realize that atheists often used to go to church, which really has nothing to do with being a Christian. Those who are writing the "atheists are evil" comments are right, but they need to remember that Christians are no better. All people are sinful and evil. I am a Christian because God drew me to him, and he opened my eyes. For that reason I could not possibly change my heart. You don't go back to living in a cardboard box when someone gives you a mansion.
Many Christians, myself included, are very willing to question our beliefs.
Believing that God exists, or that you should follow him, doesn't make you a Christian, what makes you a Christian is surrendering your life to him. After you surrender, you don't unsurrender, the choice is made. There are Christians and atheists alike who would disagree with me on this, and they are welcome to flame away. Doing good deeds, serving in church, believing that God is real and that he judges souls does not make one a Christian. Saying a prayer asking Jesus as your Savior doesn't make you a Christian either, this isn't a "Get out of hell free" card. God isn't up in heaven going "What? There's a loophole!?" He knows the heart of every person, better than they know it themselves, and knows if a person surrenders their soul to him or if they are just losing some extra sleep on Sunday morning.
I have had many attacks in my walk of faith, many that were quite severe, however, my faith has endured. Not because I am not willing to consider other possibilities, but because I know whom I have surrendered my soul and will to.
I don't see atheists as my enemy, I see you as people who are held captive by sin, just as I once was. I could say I feel sorry, but the truth is I feel compassion, and it's a compassion that I feel that seeks to be an instrument of God to free those being held captive.
Now that I've sidetracked significantly. Those who attack atheists, I agree, should just shut up. They are each just as sinful, just as immoral, and just as evil. It's the pot calling the kettle black.

i am a christian and i don't think you are evil or immoral. We should not "generalize." it's funny that you are. christians are not all the same either. The true Christian teaches and preaches by example and the way he lives. You have had a bad experience, I suspect, but we are not all alike. Jesus came and preached love and tolerance---especially towards our "enemies."
You know, it's not about something that works "better," it's about a spiritual awakening and having an intimate relationship w/your God. This is not about something trivial like finding a pair of jeans that fits better. Sometimes, when we look within and know what Jesus would do, and we realize that we have short-comings, we are covicted by our conscience. Jesus extends grace for our transgressions, and we all need that--even Christians! Please think about this. Knwoing the true message Jesus cme to us with, is truly liberating. I don't judge you.

I'm not an atheist but I agree with you. I am an ex-christian. And before someone comes on here saying that it is impossible to be an ex christian that you never really were one to begin with, I would say how do you know that. I was saved baptized and the whole 9 yards until I discovered the Bible was not the infallible word of god. And was very hurt and lost when I found out that I had been lied to all my life.

i'm top there with you. I actual have had an similar, good journey. and prefer you i do not pick to be good because the phobia of a hell-like position or be good because good is going to advantages me. maximum individuals pick faith and the desire it supplies about the afterlife because they're unhappy with their modern lives. I quite do no longer believe you've chosen hell and devil. how can you pick some thing that does no longer exist. i do not imagine you've been inaccurate both, yet let's for sake of argument that you've been inaccurate, if the God of the Bible is all he's cracked as a lot as be on that e book, then i'm positive he will forgive you. yet, quite i have got here upon some significant contradictions on the Bible and journey a lot discrimination from those who call themselves Christians that i do not see how God, if he exists, should be of their existence. So stay your existence completely with out concern of punishment or expectancy of advantages.

I have an important question for you, Did you know the Lord? Did you really truly repent and put your faith and trust in Jesus? If your not sure, Then there is a good possibility that you didn't. The Bible says there is such thing as "false conversions", in whitch a stony ground hearer recieves the the word with joy and gladness. then in a time of tribulation and trouble and persecution, falls away. The Bible says there will be a day of Judgement and the ten Commandments will be Gods standard. let's look at a few to see how you will do on Judgement day.
Have you ever lied (even once--fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything--the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart; and we’ve only looked at three of the Ten Commandments.
What a shock! Nothing you’ve ever done is hid from His holy eyes. Will you be innocent or guilty on the Day of Judgment? Listen to your conscience. You know that you will be guilty, and the Bible says if God Judges you according to your sin, you could end up in Hell. That’s not God’s will. He provided a way for you and I to be forgiven.
He sent His Son to take our punishment: "God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." He was bruised for our iniquities. Jesus then rose from the dead and defeated death.
Your own so-called “goodness” can’t get you into heaven any more than mine could. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He is the "Door," the only "mediator." There is salvation in no other name, so pray something like this: "Dear God, I repent of all of my sins (confess them). This day I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Please forgive me and grant me your gift of everlasting life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."

I never did that to anyone.
But why do all Athiests try and disprove God and put relgious people down for believing in a God or a spiritual way of life?
Is it because you found out there was no Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus or Easter Bunny?
If anything Athiests should point out the valid and provable hypocracies or inconsistencies in religion.
Like Chrisitian Solider maching off to war.
With Thou Shalt Not Kill
Love YOur Enemy the Most
That one is a toughy to answer.
But they don't.
They're like the religious zealots who use that cliche I hate: God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve!
Just as bad as "If god is so powerful can he make something he can't lift? ha ha!"
So how about it Athiests. Can't you say, how's your day going?
Or if you have a real challenging question put it out.
Ask us the merits of "If Adolph Hilter accepted Jesus Christ to be his personal lord and savior just before taking his last breath, is he saved and will he go to heaven?"
Now that's a challenging question to pose to a believer from a non believer.

I understand that not all atheists are Satan loving heathens full of hate & anxiety. We are surrounded by atheists in all places and all walks of life. People are people and like with all other groups, I know nice atheists, good atheists, hard-working atheists, fun-loving atheists, etc. My personal view has never been that atheists are evil or to be avoided. And I appreciate your post.
But I can say also that the shoe is on the other foot. I started out thinking I was a Christian until I was in my late teens. At that time I became disillusioned by the church and attracted by the scholastic alternatives I saw. I left the church & became a card-carrying atheist who worked, paid my mortgage, etc. Just like everyone else.
But I was always aware of an emptiness inside me. I had questions that scholars and philosophers couldn’t answer. As I delved further, I found myself getting answers that spawned more questions than answers. I finally came to a point where a tragedy caused me to have to review and rethink my approach on life.
It was during that period that I came to know and love Christ. My prior experience had been religious – going through the motions, acting and doing what I thought Christians are supposed to do. But now I have a fullness of spirit that is deeper and more satisfying than anything I have previously know in my 40+ years on this planet. And so I offer to you that your experience may be different than mine in that you found a satisfactory way of life outside of Christianity. But my story is just the opposite. And I am not just a kid spouting off Christian slogans and Bible verses. I have experienced life – ups and downs, good & bad, positive & negative. And my experience has shown me that no matter what good I may have known in the past (and my life was considerably good) it pales in comparison to what I have come to know as a Christian.
Not all of us are trying to proselytize others. But like you, I want to share what I have found so that you may find the joy of life that I know today. I have been taught to give away what I was feely given. And that is my purpose for being on this forum. Best of luck to you. And may I saw that if tragedy befalls you at some point in the future Jesus still loves you and is still waiting for you to ask or His help. God is always available to those who want Him.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hume%27s_dictum Apparently by an atheist your ideas and concepts can not be proved. Before people condemn others for their beliefs they really need to do research about their own beliefs and ideology. Your answer for atheists came down through history. Is this to say that history is wrong or is it to say that theory is wrong. Atheists were put to death at a certain time in history for voicing their opinions. Aren't you glad you live in a society that does not require you to follow a certain set of rules and guidelines. Thus the separation of church and state. No Government has the right to tell anyone who or what to worship. For myself, I choose to worship God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in truth, love and peace.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheist Try reading these sites in their entirety.
