The world we live in today, wheter we want to admit it or not is tied to God in one way or another.Country's are fighting each other because of the God they follow. Each of which won't learn of the other's faith.Wouldn't it be better for everyone to know of the other faith's out there, that way we would know more about our neighbor and his faith.Instead of killing each other, why can't we learn and grow together?

I don't want to take away from what school's do teach ok let me make that clear right now.I just want to know why and how to make this world safe for my children! And since most fighting is based on the different God's then I think we should know more before we fight is all.

I think that would be wonderful!!! It should be required education. It is because of ignorance that there is sooo much fighting. If we understood religions for what they are instead of focusing on the differences maybe we could all find more similarities. But, it probably won't happen because too many are afraid. Funny ... if they had true faith they would have nothing to fear.

I personally don't think any type of religion should be taught in the schools. It's a great idea for people to learn about all the belief systems. However, I also believe that even if everyone in the world read up and researched the different types of religions, there would be no changes. The odds that your average Joe is going to pick up the Koran and decide that their religion is just as good as his are pretty slim. No matter what people KNOW, it's what they BELIEVE that decides their actions. It's like cell phone companies. I BELIEVE that T-Mobile is the best provider, but I KNOW about Verizon, Cingular and Nextel. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying to get people to switch services.

It depends on Who do you mean by 'THEY'!

In America at least, it has been believed that the Church and the school or government should be separate. If one wish to learn about religion, then they should learn it from their own source of faith.

Do you mean like the Middle East, places like Saudi Arabia, and the like, it is against the Law to teach the Muslim kids anything but Islam? did you know that! they teach Islam to everyone, but not Christianity to all, and God forbid should one dare to teach the Torah! oh no! the Jews and their faith!!

In theory it sounds very good, but in reality, kids these days are being taught about Islam and Muhammad, but they are not permitted to mention the word GOD or Jesus in School! did you know that! We are trying to build bridges, and they are trying to build them over our heads.
Learn and grow! good idea, but some wants to grow and increase in their own number and decrease others, and take them over. Have you heard this statement 'we are 1.3 billion and growing...!' or 'one day we will conquer the world.." blah blah blah. Are these people trying to learn or understand their number! The answer is NO.

They can teach classes about religion if they want to.

They just can't do that in place of Science 101, for example

They can't teach "Intelijunt Desine" instead of evolution, to be specific. And they also can't have morning prayers in homerooms.

But if a school offered a Comparitive Religion class, I doubt anyone would complain, as long as it was considered an elective, such as Home Economics or Speech, etc.

Yes, I think other faiths should be taught about in schools, but from an unbiased, strictly academic point of view, rather than a dogmatic, doctrinal one. Students should learn about what other people believe, but at the same time they should not feel like they have to convert. And this includes Christianity.

Great idea, but it will not happen. Why? For the same reason all of the groups here in the US has taken God out of the classroom in the first place.

Christian parents (while the majority, and do support God in school) do not want their children exposed to ANYTHING. They do not want to her about Mormons, JW's, Muslims, etc. Usually pretty intolerant.

Atheists again do not want to hear about ANY god, and will sue or get the ACLU to sue just for asking this question here.

And so on, and so on. I am not trying to trash you question, but I honestly believe that the minority in the US who does not believe in God, or is not Christian has pretty much ruined it for the whole country.

No, I think the public school system should focus on reading, writing, math, and science.

If you think your children are in need of spiritual guidance or religious studies, you, as a parent should provide that for them. The public school system is not the place for religious studies. Home and churches are the places for that.

If you want your children to know about other religions... libraries are still free... and it wouldn't hurt to take them to other religious centers of learning. Why should our tax money be spent teaching what YOU should be teaching your own children?

Yes, there should be a required high school class called Intro to Religion that briefly describes the major points of each world religion in a non-sectarian manner.

And when, exactly, are children supposed to get an education? I have no problem with children learning about all faiths, but honestly, with education in the state it is, do you really want less time spent on the basics?

Yeah like how many of the other faiths are you going to teach and how shallow will the introduction be...it would take forever to cover all faiths,

Best to leave religion in the home and place of worship and keep religion out of the school room, school is for teaching and church is for preaching...Amen to that!
