Probably because you respond to your boss doing that. Next time don't answer at all until you are out of the bathroom. Also, you should try pretending like you didn't hear anything that was said. Say "I couldn't hear you, I was using the restroom." or "I couldn't hear you, I was in the restroom and the acoustics are weird. Restrooms are no place for a conversation. They are too noisy with running water, toilets flushing, and there is usually an echo." You boss will soon stop.

I think I had the same boss.....he would go in and drag his wife off the can when he thought he needed her help.....she couldn't get it through his head that he would just have to wait a few. one reason maybe because he/she thinks he then has your undivided attention. Another may be that he/she wants to make sure that you are not just lingering there to delay doing your work. And then, he/she might just be a jerk! Take the advice you gave someone else, and go out and kick your already well-battered trash cans a few more times!

I can't tell you what your boss thinks nor can anyone else. However, maybe it titillates him to speak with you while your on the other side of the door. Maybe he's just insensitive. Does he interrupt other activities too? If it bothers you enough, ask him to be more considerate. If he doesn't change or becomes angry or bothered in any way, except apologetic, you should think about finding another place to work.

Just hoping you and your boss are the same sex. LOL>
Uh, if you're both women, well... I've know a few women that like to chat while in the bathroom. Maybe it means she's comfortable with you?
LOL, sorry, thats just funny but sad. Sad for you, I mean!

OK, that's weird, and here's an idea that i have seen work before.
find a phamplet about any Manager/Supervisor's Training classes and leave it on their desk, covertly. this person obvious needs someone to help them understand proper supervision techniques.
and if that doesn't work in getting the clue across, start speaking to him/her after they pickup a phone call. Just start talking, like you don't know they are on the phone. And if something is mentioned about it, explain that you assumed it was OK to speak to someone while on the phone just as it appears to be OK in speaking to someone when they on the john.
or just find a new place to p !!

because the first time your boss tried to talk to you while using the restroom you let him/her.
instead you should have said 'excuse me can i please use restroom in privacy and peace' - which is a very nice and polite ful way to say it. that is rude of your boss in my opinion

Maybe he/she (I'm assuming its a he though) likes you? lol It's a pretty weird thing...maybe you need to talk about it? Or do it to him? He might be trying figure out what makes you tick, or if you're man enough to confront him? Ask other people if he does the same with them? Or maybe he was simply brought up comfortably like that?! He wants you to get back to work maybe? But you need to stop it if you're not comfortable, don't let it happen!

I think it's normal if you're female. Where I work, the ladies and mens are in close proximity, and when I exit the mens, I hear all kinds of chatter coming from the ladies. Mens room is almost always completely silent.

Maybe he's on his cellphone and you think he's talking to you.
Wait a minute. He' paying you. And you are "on the can" during his time. If you are paid $30.00 an hour, that means if you take a 5 minute dump, that's $2.50!
Now, to deter him. Fart very loudly and eat stinky foods the day before.
