Jesus never said that we should all be identical in our approach to the divinity. I personally consider myself a "divine universalist" and I reccomend that you check into this particular philosophy if you havn't already. You sound like the type.
Many Christians, particularly the conservative evangelical Christians, believe that we should all believe exactly as they do because the Christian church has enjoyed hundreds of years of being the dominant church of Europe and America. Frankly, I believe that the power and influence is going to their heads. Also some Christians twist the verse John 3:18 to mean that only those who believe in Jesus are saved. Personally, I don't believe that this is what Jesus wanted. John 3:18 says, "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." (NIV)

Here's some info. I found that explains why they believe the way they do.
Some, as atheists, have the ability to reason beyond the inherited mental defense mechanism that is responsible for most people's belief in a god of some kind. It has been discovered that the belief in a diety who protects and brings you to a happy home when you die, is actually a natural reaction in our brains, to the knowledge that we will all die someday, and any day. This belief acts as a buffer for anxiety and depression that many would feel if it was proven god did not exist. And atheists, have either reasoned above and beyond our natural instincts, or have been born without this mechanism in our brains, like a mutant with a special power to see through B.S.. So, I guess we are kinda special. And, now that I know these things, I cannot in good conscience, try to force the mental security blankets away from those who obviously need it.

It is understandable to know that the only way to the creator is Jesus if you know that the Son of God is the Divine Human - God's visible body or "the Word that became flesh" in the Old Testament also called the King and the Truth.

So what I did replaced into to judge my own own convictions from my previous protection rigidity service and got here up with the coolest that a christian is a christian. What makes the version is the persons life reviews. I have an huge life experience because I have considered quite a lot each thing conceivable and some too grotesque to position in writing. i'm able to study someone a mile away in basic terms by skill of watching their manners. All this replaced into taught to me yet even that has its flaws because the purely human being who recognize the genuine reality is God. sturdy success on your quest.

We don't think you should believe exactly as we do; it's not a "be like me or else" kind of thing. Real Christians who have a relationship with Jesus have real joy and peace and like to share the fact that others can have that too. Jesus does, however, expect uniformity in His believers. John 10:16 says "I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd."

You can deny Christ-God gives everyone a free will. As Christians, God call us to be witnesses. You can't force anyone to do anything, the only way someone will come is if the Holy Spirit calls them. You'll know in your heart when you need more. We only have so many breaths allotted. The yahoo answers isn't the best place to witness-no, but plenty of people are interested.

It started with Christians' leader, Christ. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me."--John 14:6

It is not as important that you believe the way that I or somebody else does as long as you believe the way that God does. When A Christian is convinced they have the right path it would be selfish of them to not try to help someone else be saved from going to Hell. Most people aren't trying just to irritate you they generally care about where you will spend eternity.

"I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). There are many references in the Scriptures where Jesus claimed exclusively that He is God and the only way to the Father and Heaven.
