A while ago, I had found some brilliant statistics about that (which is much more useful than merely counting the number of people who call themselves Christian) but I can't find them now. I have to improve my Googling skills...

The best I can get is this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/wat/archive/wat060198.htm

Which says that 90% of Americans 'believe in a Personal God' compared to 20% of Danes and Swedes. But I can't believe this, because that implies that _every single American_ who believes in God at all believes in a 'personal God'.

I would bet that it depends on the country, however. Despite what so many people here say, Europe is still by and large nominally Christian. But I would guess that a majority of Europeans, CIS citizens, Australians, New Zealanders and Africans do not believe in the 'Big man on a cloud', whereas in the USA, Latin America and Africa (among Christians) I would guess that belief in the book-writing God is still in the majority.

God the Father is always spirit, He has never taken physical form. When we see in the Old Testament any reference to God being on the earth or doing something a physical being would do (Gen.3:8) it is the pre-incarnate Christ.

I envision God as a spiritual being, but then I also look at all other people and try to see God in them so I guess I do both.

God is spirit. A non-physical entity. He will never be brought down to the level of the created. The created is to go to Him.

My guess is that the knee-jerk thought would be that God is in human form (that way we can more easily relate). But, after the knee-jerk, most would realize how foolish that sounded.

However, there are always those that get hung up on that old "Made in his image" thing.

he is always pictured as a man for children but I am sure mature Christians would never see him in a visual form
