no idea what this has to do with dogs.... but no they shouldn't, unless someone else that you live with let them in or you were expecting them.

The conventional courtesy in America is that they should knock and wait till being invited in, no matter how familiar they are with you. It's considered respect for your property rights or tenant's rights. However, given the modern anomie in America today, it's not surprising that more people are forgetting what used to be considered as common courtesy by everybody.

My opinion is no one should just walk into your house, uninvited. I usually have my door locked when I am alone, taking a shower.

If you had the door unlocked then you were asking for it. If they unlocked the door themselves with a hidden key or something then they shouldn't have come in.
