Do you think this is just your school? Try finding out who is on this committee, do petition and give solid reasons for not wanting uniforms, because there are plenty of arguments about why students should wear them.

I'm sort of anti myself and a former teacher. I know people say it helps with discipline, but do you know how much time is spent having to tell a student to tuck in a shirt, get a belt, take off that scarf, etc. I wonder how many disciplinary issues result from incorrect uniforms.

I had daily problems with students in middle school, and I suppose it was their only way to control things, but it wasn't a pretty way to start the morning. I also had a student that didn't come to school one day (on more than one occasion) because she didn't have any clean uniform clothes! There are plenty of kids and families that have trouble buying extra clothes - golly, you wear the same shirt and pants day after day and tell me how good it looks and smells. Perhaps a dress code is more of the solution. I just think uniforms can cause problems, too, and BTW, students can still have the "BEST" uniform clothes and shoes, too. And they'll let others know.

Maybe it's not as crazy as you think. You should research other schools that have uniform codes. Are there less school fights? Do the kids get better grades? Are they more confident? I think it is worth giving it a chance. Besides, you can't debate a topic if you don't know all the pros and cons (and saying uniforms are just uncool isn't a valid argument).

Nothing! I know that fashion statements are important to teens, but studies have shown that uniforms level the playing field and actually facilitate a better learning environment.

And that IS why you're going to school, right? To get an education?

I agree with having a school uniform. It promotes discipline and removes the competition involved with having to dress to look "cool". In my area there have been too many incidents of students' clothing and shoes being stolen by other students just because they're "better".

probably nothing, sigh...assuming that it is really true and not just a rumor.
My daughter had to wear a uniform in hs and actually got to like it--she could spend her money on weekend clothes, and spend her time in the morning on hair, make-up or extra sleep instead of choosing the perfect outfit. (At a university now, no uniform) Also, no ironing, easy care--unlike some of her other outfits that she had to handwash...
so there are advantages to you that your school never thought of.

Rejoice - you no longer have to agonize over what to wear each morning, plus you will no longer have to worry what your shallow friends think about the pants you bought at WalMart. Not to mention how much money this will save your parents because I highly doubt you pay for your own clothes.

After school you can express your fashion sense (or lack thereof).

I do hope they won't wake up too late. As for the ones that are awake... we always need to be prepared for the day to come.
