First off, israel does a pretty good job of taking care of itself, and has never needed US troops to protect it, so I doubt we'll see US troops defending it anytime soon. Secondly, I can't see the US military incorporating a draft anytime soon, the social costs to the country are too high, not to mention the costs to the military of attempting to integrate unwilling recruits. The military doesn't want people who don't want to be there.

Yes there should be a draft, even with all the problems that go along drafting the unwilling, but all this talk about plenty of enlistments is bull. The military has lowered the IQ level so they can allow more bodies into the service. Same thing happen during the Vietnam War.
The military is paying up to 50,000. for reenlistment bonus's to get people to forget there good sense and play with lady luck. Plenty of People, oh yeah!
Yes there should be a draft, with a couple of kickers included. You could get out of the draft during the US Civil War for $300.00. So what is Civil War money worth to day?
For that same amount we should allow in today's money, we should allow those who can beg, borrow, steal or ask daddy for the money. I would guess it would a 1000.00 to one.
So, for 300,000.00 you could buy your way out of fighting this war and possibly dieing for it.
Most of the rich support Bush, so getting out of the killing zone should cost you an arm and leg.
God love American despite our lack of practicality, fairness and judgment!

Honestly, I don't want my son to die, but since our prez got us into this mess do I want him to defend our country and freedom? Hell yeah. I think that the draft should be done, especially since a lot of the generation that would be fighting this war do not care or even respect what our country is about in the first place.
I think that a lot has been lost in the last two generations regarding our pride in our freedom, and these peeps need a wake up call. Do I agree about this war? no. Do I agree we should do our patriotic duty? Hell yes!
Enforce the draft and preserve what we all enjoy!!!!!!!

They couldn't possibly enact a draft because everyone would just claim to be gay to get out of it. You can't be gay -and- in the military and if they were to change that rule it would give Gay Rights Activists a valid platform for pushing same-sex marriage away from the states and into the national spotlight.

Yup Deacon.....spoken like a true bleeding heart liberal. What's the matter afraid to serve your country?....if all the rich go to war who's going to pay taxes so you can get your free handout?
The last time a draft was brought up in Congress in 2004 it was by 2 Democrats....Al Sharpton was one, and I can't remember the other.

For the 999th time, this stupid question comes up!!!!!!
NO,NO,NO,NO!!!!
There is no draft, there is no need for a draft, AND THE MILITARY DOES NOT WON"T ONE!!!!!!!!!!
They have plenty of troops and they are meeting their recruiting & retention goals. The last thing they need is a bunch of slackers, malcontents, Couch potatoes and Yahoo! Answer users who can't spell!!! Let alone, shoot a m-16.

I do not think there will be a draft. The military has learned over the years that it runs more efficiently WITHOUT people who we forced into its ranks. EVEN if that means having fewer people.

i'm sure that eventually it will be necessary for us to be in lebanon. There won't be a draft, we have plenty of good, willing volunteers in our military. We will fight a war of attrition if neccessary or a war of manuver, whichever is more appropriate
