Do whatever makes you happy. Remember money isn't everything. You may not find the job your looking for right away so don't stress over it. In most cases, it usually comes to you. Explore your options but try not to job hop much. Long term shows committment for future employers. Gain some experience, listen and learn from your co-workers as you can always use that knowledge elsewhere. I always ask myself the same question and found out the only way I'm going to find what it is I want to do with my life, is to go out and do it :)

The $40,000 a year and refusing to make less is pushing it just a little. That is almost $20 an hour.Sure it is possible but most people that make this kind of money are experienced ones that have done their time and earned it on the job.The key to happiness is not how much money you are wanting to make but finding what you enjoy doing. You need to look at what you are going to be happy with.In todays world the average pay is around $30,000 a year.Sure there are jobs that pay more but it takes experience. Most have to start from the bottom and work up.Others that start off at more than that either know someone that hires them or it is a job where they have put in hours of stressful overtime. No one can tell you which path to take or choose a career for you. This is something for you to decide .Once you decide what you really want to do then you need to see what you have and what you need as far as education and then go after your goals.
Good luck on your journey to success

I have a great job as an email consultant for my uncle's company. The job is super easy. I deal with complaints and commennts and forwad the really important stuff to the actual business leaders. I've had this job since I was 15 and I would never give it up. I make a lot of money, probably cause my uncle is the head of the company, but I'll take it. I am also in school and in about 1 and 1/2 years I'm getting my masters in buisness administration or mangement. they make lots of money too.
If you are interested in real estate do that as a part time job, because I've heard it's a good job to have but it's not stable.

I'm in your boat! I'm 29 and have some college finished. I'm going back for spring semester 2007. I don't know what to do either.
My mom and I used to remodel hud homes when I was young. I hated it with a passion! I'm now a sales manager for a custom glass company (long story) and I love what I do. I love filling unusual requests and engineering solutions to design issues working with architects, general contractors, engineers and interior designers. Most of all, I love having the reputation that if no one else can help, call Fabe!
There's no such degree as glass specialist. I work for a small company where there is no more room to move up. So, what I'm gonna do is get a nice blanket business degree. I'm afraid of the higher maths, otherwise I'd go Civil Engineering.

Well right now I am a music major and I would make very good money if only people needed orchestras more often. Although I do love music, the jobs that I can get are limited. Right not I am thinking about maybe be a lawyer part time and do music as well. I am working right now at a place where I get too much stress, too much work and no compensations, but I have to do what I have to do. And about careers, I am going to do music because I love it but I will also minor in law because I do want to be a lawyer but I'm going to take it easy on that and only do it part time in the future.

I am self-employed in the ultra stimulating (sarcasm) world of banking compliance, and am on the road about 3/4 of the year as a banking compliance contractor. The reason there is a lot of travel is because I can make about 25%-35% more not being tied down to one desk in one city, or working for a bank or for a regulatory institution. Much of this deals with real estate transactions, yet there is a ton on this particular contract that deals with all banking regulations. I also like the freedom of calling my own shots. I live in Chicago so it's easy to travel for work, and sometimes I'm lucky enough to get a good contract locally, yet it does not always happen that way. In 2004, I spent almost 8 months out in California, and in 2005 I was lucky enough to work mostly locally. Here we are in 2006 and I've been out in Richmond, VA on a contract which will last for nine months (March-Dec). I was always on the road since I graduated college, and being single, never married and never having children makes this life less stressful than for contractors who are married with or without children.
I like my work and made my job more enjoyable by becoming self-employed three and a half years ago. Yet ultimately, I would love to get back into the Art Gallery business, which is where I started after graduating college in 1985. The banking bug bit me in about 1990 and I took a massive pay cut getting out of art sales to go into banking. In the long run, it has helped me discipline my rather scatterbrained mind and that's been the big upside. There is no question that I would love to start my own Art Gallery one day, and have it based on the tradition of patronage as opposed to today's method of selling a lot of crapola. Funny thing is I'm not an artist and can't even draw a straight line; yet my majors were art history and business, so I'm comfortable around creative people while having the savvy to help artists create portfolios and slicks to assist them in promoting their own work.
I would also like to get back to the art business because it allows me to mingle with interesting and stimulating people more than the banking business. One day I'm going to make that a reality.
For now, banking compliance pays the rent.

Being picky at this stage is gonna make your search for a career all that more indecisive. Either way you look at it, you're gonna be making near that to start off at, the question would be are you willing to wait for a promotion or a raise at a place you want to work at and went to school for, but may not be getting what you originally wanted, or would you wait a little bit at a place you can endure and like already? You went to college and you demand respect and recognition for your achievements, and you will more than likely get just that, but at the same time you may need to have a level of mutual patience with any outcome. Oh ya, Security is what I do, and to answer your question, YES I enjoy what I do very much.

I have been an Advanced Placement American History teacher for 20 years and I absolutely LOVE it. I never have to work weekends, never work a holiday, never travel for work, never be away from home on special occasions, never miss a child's ballgame, be home every day at 3:00, no danger, no back-breaking labor, no fear of lay-offs, strikes, or accidents and I make over $90,000 a year.
What is there to complain about with a life like that? All those years of college and thousands of hours of studying are certainly paying off now. I would write more, but my wife just yelled at me to come out back and join her in the swimming pool.
Good luck and stay in school and get as much educatin as you can. The money, later in life, makes it worth it.

I was a teacher for 4 years - loved the job, hated the politics and backstabbing. Now I'm a network administrator for a community service organization. Not the greatest pay in the world but the work they do gives me something to look forward to when I'm there - helping make someones life a little better.
Money is fine, but if you wake up one day years form now hating what you do, the money isn't worth it. Find that job that gives you the money you need and the ability to say "I did something worthwhile today."
