Why we (Americans) use the term "alternative medicine" I do not know. This practice has been going on for thousands of years with proven results. Modern day medicine is reletively new and has many mixed results. A great number of modern day medicines are based on scientifically reproducing an "alternative product" thus making it similar but not natural yet this duplication is understood and accepted and the natural product it was duplicated from is thought to be "alternative" and not usefull.
Those that do not believe in aromatherapy just don't understand what it is.
We all use aromatherapy in one form or another and just don't realize it.

An example is "Vick's Vapor rub" - This is Eucalyptus and clears the sinus passages. It is not traditional medicine it is aromatherapy and has been used for this purpose dating back for thousands of years.
A woman may smell a rose and feel sensual, again this is aromatherapy.

If you want a technical description here you go:
Aromatherapy is based on the ancient practice of utilizing essential oils to heal by therapeutically stimulating the nasal/olfactory senses, mental responses, circulatory and respiratory functions.

This is not voodoo it is a natural way of helping your body take care of itself.
If you do not believe in it then stop burning incense, Candles. Don;t let the smell of a pie baking in the oven refresh you. Apple and Pumpkin will do that but if you don't believe then it is just an odor so don't say you like it.

YES -- without a doubt aromatherapy is very real and has been for thousands of years.
