Some people feel that a lie will save them from having to express their real feelings, or will put them in a place where they don't have to think about what's really happening in their lives. The only bad thing is if they get caught in the lie, then they're perceived as worse than they previously were. However, some people lie sometimes just because they have ignorance towards other people and like attention. Those kind of people simply just need to be ignored until they can learn to lie about themselves before they could ever lie about other people. Simply put, lying is a terrible thing, but every person does it to hide the truth they don't want to tell or be forced to tell.

Good question dear, but one thing i would like to know honestly is the fact that you say you don't lie. If true excellent of you but i feel all as children have lied and they will rather not accept it when they are adults
Now coming to why people lie:
4 main reasons:
Trying to find a simple solution and putting it as though nothing has happened.
To avoid hassles in short term
To keep relations from drifting or covering up for others.
To keep face in front of others and difficulty of owning up self's mistakes
Plenty of other possible reasons too.
But depending on the whole situation only will you be able to judge whether a lie said is justified in that situation or not.

The are a number of reasons why people lie:
First off each and every person lies at some point in their lives..if it is a little white lie or a horrible lie we all do it at some point
People generally start to lie around age 4 to 5 and it gets worse as our age progresses
People can lie to make other like them or they lie to fit in.
People lie to keep secrets hidden or to get out of trouble
People lie to not hurt others.
People lie to just lie...pathological liers as they are called. This is just a description not a diagnosis.
There are a million reasons as to why people avoid the truth. Most of the time it is to better themselves or so they think.
I personally try to keep my lieing at a low level and only do it when necessary.

Lying is a conscious adaptation of a survival mechanism whose pre-conscious forms include concealment, camouflage, mimicry. Survival mechanisms that involve misdirection are used by both predators and prey. Think of a tiger's stripes, a chameleon's color-changing, and a fawn's speckled fur.
Think also about how some creatures pretend to be other than they are, or more than they are. A surprised kitten often arches his back and makes his fur stand on end, creating the impression that he's a bigger beast than he really is. A viceroy butterfly has markings that imitate those of the (poisonous) monarch butterfly.
Likesise: A feminist assures you that she can beat up on men twice her size.
Likewise: Many governments try hard to convince its citizens (and foreigners) that their glorious armies are unbeatable.
Likewise: Most politicians will tell you that they are concerned for this or that, while hoping that you don't bother to check their voting records.
Lies of that kind are called bluffs. They're an attempt to get an advantage that wouldn't be gained were the matter to come down to an actual test. (For example, that man might decide to hold that feminist off the ground by her ankles.)

People lie sometimes to seem better than someone else. It's like trying to impress someone. The truth can hurt sometimes,so people lie to make people happy, but compulsive lieing is not good. Once in a while deep down,we feel a little lie is necessary to make our lives move a little bit more smoothly. Hope this helps.

it seems to work for so many though, they see politicians lie, they see their parents lie. and there are some who have no regard and will say whatever works for the moment. at the root I think they do not believe others are smart enough or can remember long enough to realize that they have been lied to
ps: (a logic problem) this lie is a true lie
half the lies they tell you aren't the truth
and my personal favorite told to me by a little kid "Trust me, have I ever lied to you before,...., that you know about yet?"

I hear exactly what your saying. I have a niece that is a pathological liar and there is nothing that she won't lie about. I don't even like to tell a little white lie as they call it, and hopefully people can trust my word. But the way they lie you can't trust anything at all that they say. To answer your question....I have no idea why she does it or if she even knows.

You have to have a great memory to be a good liar. Most people can't remember all their lies and eventually they catch up with them.People sometimes want to make their life more than what it is. Our lives are sometimes boring and the majority of us live ordinary average lives. When you lie about your life you risk getting caught with egg on your face .

People lie to make the world more to their liking. They want things to be different than they are in reality. As I have always said, "A lie will take care of the present, but it has no future."

Some people lie to get attention. Some do it to see if they can get away with it. Some just lie so much they don't even know they are lying anymore...they start really believing their own made up stories.
