copys of important papers! Make sure you have back up copies of your drivers license, medical cards, health insurance, car registration, car insurance, etc stored in a safe place. That way if your wallet (or car) gets stolen you're not completely screwed. Also make sure you have the name and phone number of your family doctor so that you can contact them should the local hospital need your medical history.
And lots of quarters. Vendings machines and coin operated laundry are everwhere. Change machines aren't always so handy.

In my daughter's case, she did self sustaining study and did not bypass to commonplace severe college. No promenade and no severe college drama. instead, she traveled everywhere in the united states with me going to commerce shows. She visited 30 states and did over 15,000 miles on Amtrak before graduating severe college a year early. So my answer is vacation.
