Mexicans who move to this country do want to learn english, and their children especially see learning english as the key to success. The study I've attached indicates that Mexican immigrants who describe their english proficiency as Good earn much more than those who describe it as Poor.

They don't get handed stuff. We actually work. And why should we have to learn english? This is a country made up of immigrants. Just because White people were here first doesn't mean that English should be the primary language here. And why are you just saying Mexicans? Why not any other ethinicity? Man you must be pretty dumb and ignorant not to notice any other ethicities around you.....
and by the way...California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and about the whole west coast use to belong to Mexico but the U.S. just invade it and took over these states.

Why do you post racist questions?
First off, a large percent of the Latino immigrants are NOT Mexican. They also come from Costa Rica, Panama, etc. Calling them all Mexicans is an insult.
Second, many are learning English. Some quicker than others. English is not an easy language to master. Just like you still haven't learned the best word usage.
Third, the ones who receive a paycheck pay American taxes and should receive the same treatment as other taxpayers.
Forth, there are many legal Americans who want us to hand them stuff, too. From southern good ol' boy rednecks to welfare cheats.

Why do little white girls always believe the idiotic stereotypes that are fed to them? And why do they think wearing fashionable lables somehow allows them to take part in a political debate?
How'd that feel?
How 'bout a little description of how it works:
Upon arrival, the first generation tends to "ghettoize" themselves, living in homogenous communities where little English is spoken. The next generation begins to assimilate - speaking both English and their native language. The third generation is the one that fully assimilates. That's the way it's been happening since immigrants first began coming to the US.
Illegals aren't here for handouts. They're hear for jobs. The biggest problem is the driving down of wages (if you want to solve the problem, there is no way to do it without prices rising - just be aware of that) and the healthcare costs associated. Don't blame the immigrants without doling out a part of the blame on employers who cheat the system by hiring illegals.

Well, having things printed in English and Spanish is hardly an incentive to want to learn English. I'd say plain laziness.
If they're here illegally, they shouldn't be handed anything but a swift kick in the pants that launches them back to where they came from!

I assume that you are referring to California. Well, this used to be Mexican territory. Plus there are a lot of Mexicans here. Spanish is second language in CA, and there are so many of them here so they do not feel need to study English. It is the same in Brooklyn where all Russians live. There are so many of them there and they do not bother learning English. Even cops speak Russian. So it is similar situation.

I think you over state the problem. they come here usually and work with friends or other similar situations where they can understand and be understood. they slowly learn english by association. I think it would be wrong to say they never learn english.
in terms of the "stuff" some states legislate this into law, the feds do the same and we do need to get it under control. No alien should be afforded more or less than a citizen of the U.S. but once they get this "stuff" they need to be deported.

I think anyone who wants to permanently reside in this country need to speak at a minimum conversational English. The later you wait in life to learn a new language the harder it becomes. I speak 3 languages (including Spanish) but English is my fist language and the one that's used in my home. I lived in Belgium for a while and never once attempted to speak English (only French)...it's a respect thing...when in Rome.

I don't know what Mexicans your referring to, but your ignorance puts you to shame. Everyone not just Mexicans needs to learn English here, it's the only way yo survive and have a decent job. Or would you like all minorities to be like you and collect welfare?

According to the PEW Hispanic research center the majority of illegals from Mexico don't care about assimilating, they do not care about amnesty, of any part of America. They do not want to become Americans they do not want to learn English, The vast majority of illegals were gainfully employed before becoming illegals. They just don't care..they don't care about our laws..they don't care about the loss of wages American families are subject to. They are here for themselves...they don't care about the so called "humanitarians" who aid them. They do not care about those who are in line waiting, NONE OF THEM CARE.
