You don't have to give me a long drawn out story just where it comes from and how they celebrate it. Also what religion does it come from?

Yom Kippur is a Jewish holiday. It means "Day of Atonement" and it comes from Leviticus chapter 16. Once a year, the high priest would make atonement for the people at the Holy Temple. Even though the Temple is no longer in existence, Jews still observe this holiday by going to synagogue and fasting from sundown the night before to sundown of that day.

Yom Kippur is a Jewish religious holiday - their holiest day. It's the "Day of Atonement" and involves fast (no food or drink for a day) and prayer. No work either.

the Jewish Day of Atonement
to seek forgiveness from sin and repent
the one day the priest brough blood into the holy of holies to cover sin

came from God speaking to Moses and is very serious in the Jewish faith and God told Moses something sounding like he would perosnallytake the life of the people not pracitcing it so I believe there is a belife that God determines who will live through the upcoming year because of the statement made to moses

Jesus death on the cross is portrayed by the book of Hebrews to be the atonement for all time, and not a once every year event

Yom is day, Kipper is atonment , day of covering i think
Rosh Hasham is add a year, new year I forget which work is year

It's the holiest of Jewish holidays. The day of atonement. Basically, you're supposed to ask fogiveness from God and everyone you may have offended in the past year. I think you're not supposed to eat from sunset till the following sunset.

I think it's the forgiveness holiday. It's 4 Jews. This one girl in my class said all they did was sit and ask 4 forgiveness. I might be getting it mixed up, though.
