This will cross out most of your answers - I have know him for 5 years, he knows where i live and I know where he lives, I actually can look in the phone book for his number, no we were not drunk because neither one of us drinks, we were both alone with no "buddies" around, we are both unattached - small town everyone knows everyone

A lot can happen between getting the phone number and
attempting a call. For instance:
1: The guy can lose the information
2: The guy can think better of, perhaps being less drunk or
seeing his wife with a sneer and a knife.
3: The guy can chicken out.
4: The guy thinks it is cool to let you wait - for weeks!
As long as guys are generally expected to take the lead
in starting a relationship, you must expect that occasionally
they will take the lead in NOT starting a relationship.
There is absolutely nothing preventing you from initiating
a relationship - and then you get to face those challenges too.

Don't give your number out. Make them work for information. Say, Hmmm.... I will think about giving you my number. I don't give my number to just anybody. Then say if you are at the club, I will be here next Friday, maybe I will see you then. OR give them your email. And if they don't email, who cares, if they do email, say, can you remind me, what were you wearing, OH yeah, I know you.
By the way, if these guys are like most men, they left the number in their pants, and the number was laundered.

I think one reason they do it that at an end of a date it seems the approiate thing to do whether they plan on taking you out again or not. It is like people saying....hello how are you? they uaually don't want to know how you are.
Another reason is that they genuinely want to call you. I know it is hard for you to comprehend this, but guys can be too shy to cal again. Another reason they don't call is that they don't like you enough to even remember they said they would call. Also between the time they ask for your number and the time they shold call.....they find another girl to call.
I know as a woman this is hard to understand as women, but men tend to forget things that are important.

It's a confidence issue. More often than not, men don't think about what to do AFTER they get a hone number from a potential date!!! All they were thinking was: "can I get her number?" and after they get it, they're asking themselves: "What do I do now" and they're having a panic attack!!
so you see, it's very simple, men just don't think too much ahead and the ones that do have a plan in the form of "Can I ........"!

Sometimes men just like to have their egos stroked. Some men who are not available will get a woman's phone # for the sole purpose of proving to themselves or others that they can.
