Jennz> OOOOOOOH....Guess what? My neices were both formula fed, and they are both in accelerated classes. They are petite though, and have been since birth. Modelesque physiques and sleek builds. They are already doing trig in 8th grade, were reading at 3, and now in 10th grade, they are both taking courses at the local community college. All that on formula as a baby. Not too shabby hey? I guess Mead Johnson did something right.

I formula fed and my daughter is very healthy and very smart too.
Anyway, I think it is a woman's own personal choice to breast feed or formula feed and it doesn't make one a better parent either way.
So please ladies, let's not attack each other over such issues.

i wouldn't say my child is better, but i can say that he has never had any type of earaches or ear infections, was never colicky, and hardly ever got sick as a baby. I also never had problems with teething- just a runny nose, but not the typical teething syndromes. He is in school now and catches a lot of what goes around with the other kids. I breastfed and had to supplement with formula. The rumor is that breastfed babies are healthier because they get a stronger immune system from you and something about breastfeeding helps to prevent ear infections (not sure why or what) i highly recommend breastfeeding.

I can't say they're better, but I breastfed my babies because I wanted them to develop a better immune system, and I also supplemented with formula because my milk didn't contain much fat so my babies were not gaining a lot of weight. Some babies are allergic to breastmilk and even formula milk so they have to take soy. All babies need to get little colds every now and then to help build their immune system as well, so it is not all about breastfeeding. It is about what works for you and your child.

I formula fed my first child, why is it considered selfishness. I tried to for the first week, but some babies just won't take to breasts, plus I was going through a bad depression, not post partum but it had to do with other issues. He is still perfect though, no colds, no infections, walking and already starting to talk at only 10 months.

I don't think that either is "better". I nursed all three of my children and wouldn't have had it any other way. I know other mothers who either couldn't or didn't feel comfortable breastfeeding and to have forced them to would have been bad for the moms as well as the babies. The point is to have a healthy happy baby and mom. I wish there society would butt out and allow parents to make this very personal choice and not have to answer questions like "Why aren't you breastfeeding don't you know it is the best thing you can do for you baby?" I have heard this asked.

there have been thousands of little ones were formula fed many many years. those stats at the prompt are not precise. i became properly knowledgeable about the benefits of Breast feeding. yet I made the alternative to formula feed, for inner most causes. Will I breast feed contained in the destiny? No. yet i will claim that breast is optimal, in case you resources your little ones breast milk. Do i imagine formula is evil, and poison? No way! would I let my offspring drink donated milk? genuinely no longer. You not in any respect comprehend what ailments, pollution, viruses, metals that the different mom may have. To me that became no longer an selection both. So I chosen formula. I dislike judgmental, hateful rude human beings. there is no longer something incorrect with formula feeding. it is an astounding selection to breast feeding. no longer each mom contained in the international is able to breast feeding. in spite of what "some" human beings may say. To me it is no longer worth arguing over with someone, who refuses to imagine outside out of their own reviews or concepts. no one has the "excellent" answer. And merely because you've been "experienced" in something, does no longer make you an authority. What makes you an "specialist" is listening, gaining expertise of, being compassionate, instructing with a open recommendations, and leaving your grievance on the door. properly it is my 2 cents. i comprehend i receives thumbs down for my answer.

I wouldnt use the phrase "better than"..
I nursed all 3 of my kids. They were always in the highest percentile (height/weight/head cirumference). They all walked early, talked early. They had no ear infections, they have no allergies. They are all very smart (the oldest 2 are in accelerated classes). They have never been over weight.
I just think breast feeding is best.

okay all you breastfeeding mom need to stop talking about the mothers who didn't. I didn't breastfeed my son because he was dehydrating. so my son was formula fed. my son is in excellent health. he has only has 1 ear infection when he was a year old, and that was right after we were on a plane. he walked early can talk is above average in some areas. so please stop saying that moms that didn't breast fed are selfish, you have no idea what you are talking.

It's hard to tell when they are little although sometimes you can. Most children who are formula fed get more colds, earaches, etc. Children who are breastfed have greater immune systems and hardly get sick. Also children who are breastfed tend to be better academically and also don't get as many diseases or allergies when they are older.

I am not a mother, but I'm told that babies who breastfeed during at least the first six months get their immune systems boosted by their mother's milk, and so get a better head start on growing and developing.

I believe that the natural way is always the better way. I do not believe my kids are "better" than others, they both are even different from each other and special in their own ways. I look at it this way, why would I feed my children something that is suppose to mimic what I already produce? No substitutions in our home.
