there can be two reasons:-
1) either you made your account while you were in U.K.
2)while selecting yahoo regional choice you must have selected united kingdom instead of USA.

it is short for United Kingdom, the kingdom is made up of northern ireland, scotland, wales and england.....it's similAR TO '.com' which is chort for United States of COMerica'.
