The revolutionary war was fought primarily over money, not religion. "No taxation without representation" is still heard today.
But, it suits preachers' interests to lie about the founding of this nation and how Christians came to the US just so they could establish another theocracy like the ones they fled in Europe.

The American Revolution was fought over the independence of the 13 original American colonies from Britain, it had very little to do with religion at all.

The American Revolution was fought by men who had Christian values...against other men who did not have Christian values. They were fighting for the right to exist as a free nation.
Amazing that these Christian men told us that all men are endowed by their Creator...but suddenly, this Creator couldn't be the Christian God, because, of course, these guys weren't Christians. Excuse me, but...since when?
I know, I know...it is not politically correct any more to acknowledge that our nation is based on Christian principles. I know that the engraving on the doors to the Supreme Court, tablets with the roman numerals 1-10, are no longer taken to represent the Ten Commandments, which have gone out of style...now those tablets refer to the "Bill of Rights", the first ten amendments to the Constitution...which gaurantee rights which evidently no longer apply to Christians. I know that the Ten Commandments are not so popular any more. Along with most of God's laws.
And then we have the nerve to wonder what has gone wrong in America? Why, oh, why are our children become so violent? Why do we have so many kids arrested for public intoxication, pregnant teenagers, kid criminals, minor offenders in adult jails, and so on? Why do so many kids carry guns to school? Are you tired of people my age telling you how, when we were in school, the worst thing a kid could do was chew gum, throw a spitball, or maybe smoke a cigarette? Maybe not entirely true, but true for most of us, in our actual experience. Or maybe you haven't noticed the difference in popular television from 50 years ago?
Here's the kicker, kid. We (Christians) have been expecting you. We know you will win this battle. It's only a matter of time before you trample our faith under your feet, and declare our Church dead. We're ready for that. No, we aren't exactly thrilled about it, but we knew it was coming, and we are ready for it.
But are you ready for what happens next?

I don't think any serious historian would make that claim. The British were Church of England and so were a lot of the revolutionaries. The War was fought mostly for economic independence and self-government.

Technically, since most colonists were escaping religious persecution in Europe and most of them were Puritans or other Christians, ergo it was over "Christian" values...
