Hezbollah kidnaps two soldiers but Israel kills of hundreds of innocent people, how is that justice? when American soldiers were kidnapped by terrorists America did not collectively punish all Iraqis, just those who committed the crime. Israel would have broad support if they only attacked those who attacked them!

Matthew 5:38 (NKJV) 38"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'

The "eye for an eye" and "tooth for a tooth" are part of the widespread ancient Near Eastern law of retaliation. In Israel and other cultures, this principle was enforced by a court and refers to legalized vengeance; personal vengeance was never accepted in the Law of Moses, except as a concession for a relative's murder (see Numbers 35:18-21). The Old Testament did not permit personal vengeance. Vengeance was actually the prerogative of God (See Deuteronomy 32:35).

The primary purpose of the "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth" law was to ensure that the punishment for a crime was indeed fitting for the crime. It was designed to provide fairness or justice in the penalties for crimes committed. For example, consider the following scripture.

Exodus 21:22 through Exodus 21:25 (NKJV) 22"If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman's husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, 24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

The penalty must be fitting to the crime. That was again the whole purpose of "an eye for an eye." This was important because in some cultures the penalty for a crime could have far exceeded what would have been considered just or fair.

Israel is an established fact of life. The Jews are not going anywhere. And why should they? Justice? What's that? Was it just for any aggressors to take over the lands of those already occupying it? Do you think the Americans are going to give back the land they took from the indians? Are the Mexicans goint to give their land back to the Aztecs? I don't think so. Israel won her right to independence through bloodshed. Most nations are formed that way. The Palestinians have been beating this drum for nearly 60 years. The fact is there was no Palestinian State. The area has been under foreign rulers for thousands of years. Before the first world war it was part of the Ottoman Empire. Then the British mandate, and finally a war of independence by the Jews. The arabs lost. They should finally get over it and stop all their terrorist activities and then they wouldn't have to worry about the severity of Israeli retribution. All Israel wants to do is live in peace and make little jews. Why don't you arabs just leave them alone?

You now say Israel doesn't want Peace...

Funny, they didn't start this little nasty mess now going on...Hezbollah did; and they (terrorists) are hiding among innocent people.

Eye for an eye...is under law and the Old Testament...

As for your comments...it's a political argument. A terrorist group kidnaps people, their countrymen decide...enough is enough and take action.

Hezbollah needs to move their terrorist group to Syria or Iran (their financial backers) and get out of Lebanon. The Lebanese are caught in the middle because they allow a terrorist group to live and operate in their country, ((not such a smart move)).

I am sorry for the loss of innocent life. I am sorry the Lebanese have made this decision; now are dealing with the consequences of their decision to allow a terrorist group to reside in their country.

Speaking of innocent lives lost; what about all of the Israeli's that have died? What about all of the terror attacks that Israel deals with constantly, from terrorist groups like Hezbollah? They are under attack yet once again...

Israel must do whatever it takes to protect themselves...and the only thing that terrorists understand is violence and intimidation. It's a truly sad situation but Hezbollah has opened the door for trouble and Israel has answered.

Grace to you and God Bless!

Open your eyes. Israel wants peace. If Hezbollah threw down there arms there would be peace. If Israel threw down there arms there would be another holocaust.

Do you honestly think this is about just two soldiers? How about the eight that were killed in the raid. Or the rockets that are launched at civilian population centers. Or having an enemy committed to wiping you out sitting on your border waiting for any opening.

I realize nothing I say is going to move you to the truth but I feel the need to try.

Shalom.

This is more like an eye for a leg.
To make matters worse you have that jackass US Ambassador to the UN Bolton making excuses for Israel. The slaughtering of civilians is digusting. Check out the link below to see the innocent children killed. How many Lebanese have been killed compared to Israeli? Somewhere around 300 Leb. Vs. 30 Israeli. Over 500,000 civilians displaced. Talks of a full blown invasion. Yeah, that sounds fair.

Israel is *not* trying to punish innocent civilians. They want their soldiers back and they want Hezbollah off the border. Hezbollah is hanging out in Lebanon and makes a point of trying to "hide" in and around populated areas like cowards.

To answer the question without dealing with the current politics, the old law was fulfilled in Christ, therefore his eye for an eye, his tooth for a tooth, etc. He is the one that redeemed. Just because humans choose to be idiotic and continue acting like a bunch of buttheads about crap that really doesn't matter to the point of killing each other, doesn't mean it's not so. Folks need to wake up.
