Well, from the above answers, you know now that Jesus sent the demons into the swine. He did this at the request of the demons.

Once inside the swine, the swine "probably" went nuts. And the herd of them rushed off the steep cliff into the rocks and water below.

Some pastors and and scholors think that the demons caused this , so that the owners of the swine would get angry at the loss of their herd, and being men of wealth, they would complain about the events to the elders at the temple, thereby increasing their anger at Jesus.

Hard to tell for sure, but does make sense, as wealth and money ruled then as it still does now.

Jesus did not send the pigs off the cliff into the sea to perish. They were driven by the demons he drove out of Legion. who knew who Jesus was and did not want to confront him.

He didn't send them no where except into the pigs . They made the decision to run down the hill and drown themselves . If He had sent them out of the man they would have perished , that way they had a way to get back wherever they originate .

The answer is actaully probably unknown, It is obvious that the man was a schizophrinic though. It is possible the request that the unclean spirits enter the swine is characteristic of some kinds of schizophrenics who fear the return of the insanity).
