Pull toys are a great option for a one year old since they either just learned to walk or may even be starting to run! I have an in-home daycare and two kids of my own and pull toys are always a hit with the younger ones. A musical toy is also a good choice, like small maracas or a baby piano as children this age are continually amazed at the sounds they can create. Good luck, hope this helped.

I would think two presents are in order: first a fun toy in their favorite color and type - red elephant etc. then second, give him or her the first page of a scrap book you'll keep for them until their 18 of major news invents with a your comment about what was going on in your son/daughter's life that day. Be sure to do the opposite too, on major days in your child's life take a picture and mention what was going on in the rest of the world.

Don't go crazy overboard and spend a lot of money.
Look at what your child is playing with now! Try large tactile age-appropriate toys. They should be colorful, and if you can handle it make some noises.
Overall your child is too young to appreciate the whole birthday thing -- at this age it is for you, not for them.

You know your child better then we do, so just get him/her something you know they are interested in. If they like to be outside, get them a toy they can use outside. If they like animals, get them something animal related. Like I said, we don't know your child so suggesting gifts is a little hard because we don't know your baby's interests. I'm sure you'll find something good!

Why bother with presents? He/she won't remember or know what they are for. Activities with mom and dad I think are the best gift. Lots of laughs for the day. Keep him/her laughing all day! Take lots of pictures!
