It depends on where he goes..If he goes to a dog park, where other dogs pass fleas, then you probably found the one that hitched a ride home...If he just visited friends with a cat, likely the same. but, if he has only been on your property, he had to have picked it up there, so you would need to get rid of the source at home, and fog..or use Revolution spot-on protection.
Revolution is the best i have ever found!
It is new, and available at your vet's.

To be safe, possibly. It would be better to but carpet sprayers and stuff of that sort if you have kids. You have to vacuum first because it bring the fleas up and then spray. After you spray you have to vacuum up again and discard of the bag away from your home immediately.
It would be best if you inspect the dog further. Fleas are only on the dog 10% of the time. They feed and then jump off. Most if not all shampoos only kill the adult fleas which leaves the eggs and the (things that come after the eggs...I forget what they are called) Eggs hatch every two weeks and thats why if you bomb or spray your house you have to retreat after two weeks.
You should apply frontline or advantage to be safe. Expensive but well worth it because if you get a big problem you will have to spend hundreds of dollars(give or take depending on how big your house is) on getting rid of the problem.
If you apply frontline, advantage, or advantix be sure to keep your dog away from any other animals or children for at least 8-12 hours.
Good luck and I hope this helped.
^^^^Regarding the comment about rubbing it in^^^^^^^
All those products are very harmful if injested and it is not reccomended to "rub them in." They are topical medications that flow with the coast so you do not need to rub them in although they are applied between the shoulderblades and that is so the animal cant reach it.

No, don't go crazy over one flea. Yeah they multilply like crazy, but you bath him more than you need too. You really shouldn't bath him that much, dogs have very sensitive skin and gets dried out very easily. I bath mine once a month at the most, and that's usually because they got all muddy or something. 4 times a year would be fine, unless he's a messy boy all the time.
Your best bet is to buy frontline or K-9 Advantix from now on. And don't get the cheap stuff at the grociery store, it doesn't work and has been known to give doggies rashes and stuff.

Fogging at this point is unnecessary. Go ahead and vacuum all carpets, wood floors, (really any surface he has regular access to) very thoroughly. Also, make sure to wash all his bedding with a tad of bleach in the water. The bleach will take care of any flea larvae, pupae, or eggs, as well as other adult fleas. Also, don't be afraid to use the bleach on his dog bed, usually dog beds are crafted to be washed in a bleach solution, so they won't spot or fade. If you would find your house infested with fleas, then go ahead and fog, but right now I'd just tell you to vacuum. Good luck!!

NO. That is drastic measures. Get ADVANTAGE, apply it between the shoulderblades, rub it in and let the ADVANTAGE work, it takes a long time for fleas to be completely removed, and NEVER if the animal goes outside.. fleas eggs can live for YEARS... one rainstorm will hatch them out and the vibration of a dog moving over the ground gets them leaping... for a serious infestation in your yard, put liquid soap in lines across the yard about two feet apart and water in, it drowns all kinds of bugs and improves the soil by breaking the tension in it and lets air in... in the mean time...
BENGAL makes an excellent flea control product; it WORKS! But for now if you get the dog on Advantage NOW when new fleas find him, the advantage will prevent them from reproducing. It is an excellent product.

Frontline or K9 Advantix is your best bet. I don't know where you live, but this time of year they're a must for flea control. I doubt you need to fog your house, but don't rely on a flea shampoo to control fleas.

if you find one, chances are there are more. I would keep an eye on your dog to make sure and buy him a flea collar. Check his bedding and where he sleeps in your furniture. It is VERY easy for one to become 1,000 in a short time. I wouldn't chance it. Best to catch it now before it is too late. Better safe then sorry.

"Clarity" is on the right track about this. You'll get better longer-lasting results with a monthly topical preventative. If you use one of them regularly, the occasional flea (single) sighting will be insignificant because the preventative will disrupt the flea life-cycle, thereby killing it.
