1. It makes me laugh. The rapture (as we understand it today) wasn't invented until the 19th century). So, for 1800 years, "sola scriptura" wasn't worth a darn.
This "clear" reading of scripture had never been read before. By piecing together random parts of four books of the bible, some preacher came up with this around 1820. Was every Christian before this simply too stupid to see the rapture? Or is the better argument that it isn't in the bible in the first place.
Personally, it is a rather ridiculous argument that a perfectly benevolent deity would snatch a certain number of people up to heaven at a certain point in time (was Martin Luther not worthy, or Aquinas?), while making everyone else die. This is just a feel good thing for fundamentalists to think maybe they can avoid death. It's sad and dangerous.
2. They are intellectually dishonest. They apply reason some areas of their life, and ignore in others. No matter now intellegent and nice someone might be, I find it hard to respect someone who is not rational and intellectually honest. Especially as it pertains to their world view.
As Sam Harris says, 45% of Americans believe Jesus will probably return to earth on a cloud in the next 50 years. That is a dangerous belief if it affects our world view, the wars we fight, the people we elect.
Can you believe HALF of Americans actually believe this? It would be funny if it weren't so sad and dangerous.

A theory is an idea that can be backed up by evidence that supports it.
Therefore, the Rapture is not a theory. It is wild speculation. It is also ridiculous, and laughably primitive in nature. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people in this world who don't truly think very hard when it comes to such things.
These are the same people that forward you chain letters claiming that Bill Gates will give you a $1000 if you do the same.
It's upsetting to have to live in a time when these people are also allowed to vote.

The Bible is clear on this! The word rapture does not appear in the scriptures however in Thessalonians it states that the saved will be caught up to be with the Lord in the air. I would recommend to any one who doubts this will occur to take out 2 movies on this subject "A thief in the night" and "Distant thunder" The movies are excellent and deal with the events leading up to the rapture and during the tribulation which occurs for the 7 years after the rapture. To further support this please read Matthew Ch.24 as foretold by the Lord and deals with the events in the world leading up to the end times. Isn't it amazing how he knew exactly the state of the world 2000 years ago as we know it today!

Q1: I am most definitely not a theological scholar, so I have no idea on when the rapture will happen/how it will happen, etc. I do know, however, that I'm planning on going to heaven and however God wants to take me...well, I guess I won't try to argue with him!
Q2: Hmm....like tele-evangelists? Scary and weird....
But an "evangelical" in the purest sense is someone who emphasizes the saving grace of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ--something that is crucial to Christian beliefs. So, other than the scary faithhealers on TV, we Christians are all "evangelicals"....definitely prone to stupidity, but (for the most part) still trying to follow God. So I guess you could say, I like 'em.

I am an Evangelical so I tend to like them but there are many who are arrogant and self-righteous.
I believe the Rapture will occur. God will remove the Church (and by that I don't mean a specific sect but those who have accepted Christ as their personal Savior) from the world before He begins His divine judgment of the World. Those remaining are still able to be saved and many will. However, many will follow the Anti-Christ believing that he can save them but he is merely trying to deceive as many as possible into Hell.

The rapture is not a theory Although you will not find the actual word rapture in the scriptures, you will find it's essence in Refelation 4:1
1.After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

The Rapture theory is sooo ridiculous. It was created by a bunch of Protestants who wanted to feel good about being heretics so they made up a fairy tale and now everyone seems to believe it. ACk!
Evangelicals are Protestants. I love the people, I hate the sin of their false heretical "religion."

I do not feel that the rapture is a theory. Read the book of Revelations and tell me if the prophecies aren't coming true? Your second question is just too vague to answer.

Don't know. And it's OK not to know. I hate when "religious" people insist that there answer is the only answer. The Bible is discerned spiritually. That is God can give us revelations as we read. He can reveal to us what He wants us to understand. The worldly will not understand because the Bible is spiritually discerned. If there is a rapture and I think it probable I think it will be very nice and I'd prefer to be there with God than here on earth when God responds to evil.
