I like this 23 year old gilr. I am 17. I have been friends with her FOREVER. I want to get her a puppy but do not know what kind she would like. She is an animal lover, especially loves dogs. What kind of puppy should I get her?

You should not buy her a puppy and surprise her...a dog is not like giving someone roses or a mixed CD, it's a living creature. I know you think she would want one, she may even have said she wants one, but she may not have thought it through or may have meant "in the future, I'd like a dog." Not only may she end up with a pet that she didn't want, or can't take of for whatever reason, but she may not be able to afford the vet visits, food and training if needed.

Trust me, as a fellow animal lover, too many dogs end up unwanted and in the pound...

If you really want to get her a dog, tell her first about your idea and then go with her if she still wants one...This is not the way to tell a friend that you crush on her...

first of all, can she afford, take care of, handle, have space for a puppy? if so, then depending on where she lives should depend if you should get her a small, toy puppy, or a larger breed. if you get her a small puppy, there are lots of popular puppies, but if you get her a larger one, get her a lab. Maybe you two can go down to a local shelter and she could pick one out that she likes? That way she's getting one she likes and you are rescuing a dog.

Before getting her a puppy you need to make sure that she is prepared for the responsibility that one brings. There is lots of time and money involved with a puppy. Bring it up casually and if she is ready, make sure that you get one to fit her needs. If she is really busy getting a hyper dog that needs long walks and lots of attention and training is not going to be the right puppy. And if she is active, vis verse, make sure that the breed you get is up for it. The right approach is to get her a dog to fit her personality and lifestyle, not by the way the dog looks. That could be the biggest disaster of your life!!!

A puppy is a serious matter. Ask her what kind of puppy if she even wants one. I would hate to see that puppy end up at the pound.

I know you'd like to surprise her, but you should check with her first. Having a dog takes A LOT of responsibility, meaning she'll have less time to see you. Also, dogs are expensive and she might not even want one! You should find a specific breed that will suit her lifestyle and let her meet the dog first.

If she's a active dog get her a medium to large size dog like a golden retriever. If she is a prissy/ preppy type u may want to get a little dog like a Pomeranian or shih tzu. This all depends on her personality and your budget

You should ask her. Puppies NEVER make good surprises! If you are set on it being a surprise, then find out what kind of dogs she likes and go from there.

No. You never get an animal for someone as a gift. This is a terrible idea. Please, get her a stuffed animal or even better, 'adopt' an animal from a wildlife sanctuary or in the wild for her. If she loves animals, this would make her very very happy!

Shame on all the people just blindly giving answers. Shame Shame Shame.

a bichon frise. they dont shed and low up keep (but do have to be professionally groomed every 2-3 months) as a puppy they are little white fur balls. when looking for one make sure they are a good quality--black eyes and nose white fur (may have a little bit of apricot color fur on ears) they are also great companions and great w/ all types of people young and old. they are also indoor dogs. look up pics of them
