It's not necessary to tip the tailor but $2 would be a nice touch and shows class.

I probably would tip a tailor especially if this person worked in a shop and was paid commision by the peice, which means they wont get the whole amount you pay, but for the person who said tipping is only for food and parking cars. That is so wrong.....there are alot of jobs where the person works for someone else that takes the biggest part of the money and they rely on tipping to supplement their income......for instance...cab drivers, hairdressers, barbers, bartenders, the person who gives you the massage or facial along with waiters and waitresses. I used to be a waitress a few years back and I know personally that the minimum wage for a waitress is $2.13 an hour...so those tips are what pays their bills.
Just my 2 points worth...thanks

Im not sure about a tailor but whenever Im in doubt about whether Im supposed to tip someone I always do just in case. Ive worked for tips before andf I know how they add up and make youre work more worth while. If the tailor did a good job and was curtious why not throw him a few bucks.

No, I wouldn't tip a tailor. I feel like their customer service is included in the price of the altering.

i have never tipped a tailor, if its an especially hard alterating or something like that i can see why it may be appropriate, but for a basic alteration (strap shortening, taking in around the waist) i would say tipping is not nessecary

I don't think it's appropriate to tip a tailor, I'm pretty sure they are paid an adequate wage. Servers, bell hops and such depend on tips for their livlihood, they are paid around $2.00 hr.

TIP means "To Insure Promptness."
If someone goes out of their way, then you are welcome to do so. If not, it's up to your conscience.
As for restaurants, remember that these people work for far less income than you do. What is an extra dollar or two to you when you already bought a $20 dinner?

That's up to you if you want to tip them or not. If they are going out of their way to do a nice job and taking care of you, then I would tip.

I don't. Any of the tailors/seamstresses I have gone to charge prices that are comparable to extortion anyway.
