i think he's sick, been throwing up, anyone?

Okay, is it basically the brown color of his food? You kind of need to really look at what is coming up. If he throws up once and quits, could be he just ate too much, especially if it's as hot where you are as it is where I am. Give him some water to drink, and see what he does. If it continues, then call your vet

hairball? My cat, who is long-haired, does this periodically.
If that's not the problem, I would definitely take him to a vet to get him checked out.
