A few things to consider in this regard.

1. Statistically speaking half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

2. It is the nature of men to take a facet of the truth and build upon it until it no longer resembles the truth.

3. Some people only open their mouths to change feet.

4. Last, but not least, in modern culture it is more important to be heard than to be right.

Having said this it must also be admitted that most of the other answers contain serious elements of truth as well:)

Because half the time we're not listening to what the other person is saying; we're too eager to say what we're thinking. To get our edge in, we naturally raise the volume of our voices. Good listeners are actively engaged in what the other person is saying and wait until that person is finished before they speak.

Sometimes people mouths say something before they really think it through or they want to get it out before they forget or get passed the point then it feels kind of awkward going back to the same discussion. Then some just think what they want to say is more interesting or important than what the other (s) have to say.

Its just the world we live in these days. Everybody wants to be heard. Unfortunately for bystanders it normally seems to go to the person with the loudest voice.

It's the old "enough about you, more about me" syndrome. They need to take communication 101 and learn how to listen when someone else is speaking.

Either because they are afraid they are going to forget what they had to say if they don't say it right away OR because they are selfish, do not listen, and want everyone to hear what they have to say.
