what would that be? is removal of toe necessary

Could you possibly be confusing the "growth" with part of the cat's paw pad? There is a little nubbin-type pad that is farther back on the cat's paw. Here's a diagram that might help:

If it actually is a growth, I might bring it to a vet's attention. They could biopsy it and tell whether it's cancerous. If kitty doesn't seem to mind the bump and it's not cancer, I doubt removal of it would be recommended. good luck!

Does it bother the cat? I would take it to the Vet, to make sure its nothing, my cat Fred had 1 on his front paw it was an imbedded grass burr. Cost me $15.00.

has it always been there or did it just appear? if it has always been there, it could be an extra toe....animals get them just like humans do.
