I hope not my dog folds her own ears back all the time! As a matter of fact she has one folded back now as she lays here beside my feet.

It actually is not if the dogs ear naturally flaps back. My vet told us that our dog can have her ears flapped back to let them "air". She did advise not doing it and letting her out as dirt and bugs are more able to get in and cause problems for her. We have a border collie.

no, dogs ears are very sensitive though, so while there ear is up i wouldn't put anything in it or make a loud noise that could damage the ear, but as far as just putting the ear up then no.

If your dog has prick ears, (stand -up ears) it can break down the cartilage and cause floppy ears.
If your dog has floppy ears, you need to fold them back frequently to clean them.
But it will cause pain if you press too hard, or twist them. then the dog will become 'head-shy' and not want his ears or face to be touched.

well i'd say no since when my dog runs or shakes her head the ears go back and can lay that way for any period of time. she's fine so i'd venture to guess its not bad for him unless you pin them back.

It can break tiny blood vessels, and ultimately, break the ear, to where it won't stand up straight anymore.

I don't know, but it looks awfully cute though. I've never heard that. If that's true, I wouldn't do it anymore. It's cuter than hell to do that to a cat too, they look like little chinese cats lol...
