Hi there, Ive got Trichotillomania too, its a pain in the *** and i find i do it more when im nervous/anxious or concentrating like watching a movie or on the phone! I got some great tips off a website a couple of years ago, such things as finding other things to do with your hands at the times that youd pull most. Even putting a sticking plaster around the end of ur thumb so u cant actually pull! I find that growing my nails to a certain length makes it harder to pull! Also if i get my hair done, the price it costs me and how nice it looks (At the time! lol ) puts me off wanting to ruin it! Theres also some alternative medicine that you can get at holland and barratt that is meant to help kerb the desire to pull but i cant remember what it is :-s sorry
I hope you find a way to become pull free, good luck and pull free vibes

Wow! I had this. It's called Trichotillimania. I was 5 or 6 years old when I first became symptomatic and my mother would find clumps of hair under my bed. I did it in my sleep and when I was awake.

You need to see a doctor right now!

I am 37 years old and i haven't done it since i was 6. Back then they just tied my hands down at night and during the day they put gloves on my hands so I couldn't get a grasp. Of course now i think that was barbaric and i would request some kind of Psychiatric medication now that i know better. That was me.
You really need to see a Doctor. i would suggest a Psychiatrist first. I have read articles in years since that say this is a sign of a serious mental disorder and I've read articles that say it's just a nervous "tick".
Please help yourself now. I'm sure you can find a solution. Don't stop with a doctor if you aren't satisfied with his solution either.
I hope it turns out OK. Please email me and let me know what happens.

The girl in front of me in my calc class used to do it to the point where she was bald and had to wear a bandana on her head at all times...She started picking up new nervous habits like putting a rubberband around her wrist and snapping that instead of pulling her hair, and she pinched herself too..try finding a safe alternative to hair pulling to solve your problem

Its like biting yer nails. Only you can break the habbit. I knew a girl in high school who actually did pull out a lot of the hair on the top of her head. You could see where she was pulling it out. Keep your hands amused in some other way.

I believe it's called trichotillomania (check my spelling). I know what you mean. I used to ALWAYS have my hands in my hair. It just takes willpower and determination to stop.

Go to a health website to learn more about it.

I have known 2 people who have this problem & they have had to see psychiatrists for the condition. I forget the medical name for it, but it can be helped with therapy.

it's a form of ocd-obbsessive compulsive disorder,my friend has it,you basically need to go to your gp,he may prescribe some medication and/or counselling, don't be embarrassed about talking about it,not that i'm assuming you are, your dr hears it all everyday, good luck!
