When the dog got sick, you should have taken it back to the shelter right away. Try threatening to call the local newspaper about their irresponsible attitude.

Most shelters or rescue groups are governed by the Department of Agriculture of the state where you would live. I would contact them and file a complaint. If one pup has parvo, then odds are anything under 6 mos of age at that shelter will contract the disease. It is highly contageous, and deadly to puppies and younger dogs. Our local animal control just had a litter of puppies that had parvo, and the dept of agriculture came down and tested every dog there, any that tested positive for parvo were destroyed. It sounds bad, but it needed to be done. Now, as for you and a new puppy - your house will hold the Parvo virus for upto 9 months. You can not bring a new puppy into your house during that time. The only thing that kills parvo is bleach, and it is impossible to bleach everyplace the puppy has been - inside and out. Don't set yourself up for another heartbreak by brining a new puppy home. But, do contact your State Department of Agriculture and file a complaint. And if your baby is going to survive, see if you can work a deal out with the vet for the charges. Most are willing to work with you. Good Luck

unfortunately what they suggest is usually all they will offer.
sorry 4 everything u have had 2 go through, it must b awful.
Im amazed they picked it up in time, parvo is the most horrible debilitating disease that dogs can get.
Tell people of your ordeal, maybe a fundraiser of some kind to help with your money loss? i dont know?
Parvo is everywhere and i have heard of so many cases within the last month it just isnt funny.
good luck with your baby.
In Australia they have a parvo disinfectant called microcide, this kills the virus on contact, but its something that u will have to clean all that he had contact with, sleeping areas, soak your shoes (underneath) look up parvo on the net and get some info.

What I would do is I would not give up on this for one. Get the number for the humane society and call and report this, call your local television news and give them the story, contact the newspapers, let people aware of what is going on at this shelter. If they are aware of parvo in their shelter they by law are suppose to shut the shelter down and quarantine all animals and disinfect. Call your local vets offices or state wide til you get numbers to report this, the vets offices know the correct contacts for this. Good Luck.

They might not have known of the outbreak at the time of your adoption. It might also be possible that your dog contracted parvo elsewhere as it is very common.
If you are sure it was from the shelter, send them the bill.

report the shelter to the spca head office. Also before you get another puppy check the shelter out through others before going there again. Did you take her to your vet and gave her medicine for the pravo. She just might make it then. You can also take them to small claims court and get your money back.
