okay, heres the deal. i am a 20 year old female currently going into my senior year of college. i usually seem to keep myself pretty busy with work and school, but something is missing. i miss being involved in a sport. i was considering taking up boxing. i don't even know where to start though. i started to enjoy watching it, but how do i begin? I live in Pgh, PA and I need to know how long I would have to train for, how I can fight, and basically anything about it because I dont know much. Thanks!

first find a gym close to your house that you like and join, start a traing program which your boxing coach can help with, go to every training session, theyt can be hard at first then you'll grow to love it.then once your coach and u feel your ready for a match you can sign up for local amaturefighting events

Girl you live in PA! There's plenty of boxing out there! Check all you local spots and ask gyms for details. Somebody knows somebody.

Ok, here's a picture for you. Imagine working out for an hour every day and and running a mile every morning.

Now multiply that about 5 times and you have a good start to boxing. Training is work and I don't want to use the word hard because everybody has a different limit so go ahead and do it if that's something you want. It's a warrior lifestyle and you'll be the most fit you''ll ever be in your life.

It's a sport that you have to already be living and exercising healthy before you can consider joining. Starting from scratch may take a couple years for you to get in the ring but don't let that get you down.

PA have boxing gym everywhere! Go check a few gyms out, don't sign up for membership at first gym you step in, take your time to visit few gyms, do research on the gym and some of their top fighters, talk to people, and may ask for one private lesson. Once you find gym you're comfort with, sign up and start training.

Also be very caution about coach who push you to pay them and stuff, there's lot of coaches out there who claim they will take all time in world to teach you but once you pay them, they will do may 5 min of pads work then send you to bag for rest of month and never teach you. Try find coach who really want to work with you, take their time to correct you, offer advices, watch you, and talk with you.

As for fight, I'm not sure, I'm a muay thai fighter, not a boxer. However I beileve it will take you about 6 months to two years before you're ready to fight.

Also I strongly suggest you to start run everyday, endurance is a very important part of boxing. May you can join your college track team so you can work out with them before you go do boxing. Also stretches a lot everyday and learn as much as you could about abs work out.

Also studies some of boxers and see how their body type affect their fighting style. If you're tall and slender, try studies Jessica Rakoczy.
