Most people believe this, because they are attempting to place God in a box. That box, is based on human understanding and wisdom; and we all should know that "man's wisdom is foolishness to God." But more importantly is the question, "Where and how do you see God?" Although it is important to consider how others view God, the most important thing is your own personal relationship. Keep your focus, and let the nucleus of that focus, be Christ.

That would be his choice of course as well within his capabilities
How would you have him appear, as an alien, a cat, a machine or a voice from a cloud?
How would men follow or believe in these? John said that Christ was God and came to us and Christ called himself "the son of man",then why would he appear now as anything else?
See John, 1:18

God appeared as a Pillar of Fire and a pillar of smoke as well as the burning bush. God will not appear on earth any more. Jesus will and he is in God's image. when we go to Heaven we will look like God.
