First off I'd have a professional do your hair because it sounds like you already have "color issues". You don NOT need to bleach your hair to get a darker shade. Depending on the red shade you are using you may have to prelighten the highlights. But really do stongly suggest you have a professional do it so it comes out the way you want it to.

DO NOT BLEACH IT!! When you bleach it you run the risk of the black fading out into a gray color and the red into pink or orange.

Also, DO NOT USE HENNA. It sounds good because it is all natural. HOWEVER - as a professional, henna sucks!! You cannot strip it, you cannot perm it, once it is in, you are stuck with it until it grows out.. so if you do not like it, your stuck

This is a tricky thing to do to your hair by yourself. You cannot apply the black all over without having to bleach it to get the red in. Color does not lift color. If you put the black in first, and try to put red over it, you will get a darker black, no matter how red the red is. If you put hte black in first you will have to bleach it, and run the risk of getting those ugly colors.

Try buying a hi-lift red (at sally beauty supply or another supply store). These are made specificly for dark hair and your hair should turn the exact color of the swatch.. This is how I got my hair hot pink. Color it all red, first and then go back in an make as much of it black as you want.. the black will cover anything. Section out the parts you want to be red, wrap them in foil, and apply the black everywhere.

Your best results would be to go to a professional and ask for it to be done.. They know what they are doing

Bleaching your hair makes it weak and it will definitely break off and be extremely damaged. There are henna dyes on the market with the colours that you'd like to use. My advise though is not to use jet black. Sometimes its based with either green or blue and the base color always shows more in the sun. If you want your hair darker than what it is now try finding a natural hair color like dark brown or off black (not that the colors are much different). If you cannot find henna dyes for hair , fruitiences has pretty good hair colors that are not hard on your hair.

bleach is REALY REALLY bad for your hair.

Henna is really really GOOD for your hair. Luckily, it has naturally red highlights. If you can find Henna that is draged for different shades, go with the darkest one. If you just find a generic henna, add a cup of strong black coffee to the mixture before you use it.

Wear gloves - it stains skin a reddish color. Smear vaseline around your hairline to protect the skin next to your hair from turning red. Mix the stuff up. It will look and smell like pond scum - but trust me. it will NOT turn your hair green (what I thought when I first looked at it - because it's a green herb).

Carefully put in on all your hair, combing it through and packing the "mudpack" on. Wrap your head in saran wrap, then a towel. Go read a book for 20 minutes to an hour. Rinse and shampoo out.

Henna is a natural hair conditioner, so not only will you get red highlights, but it's honestly GOOD for your hair.

you would have to dye is black first then get a highlights cap and pull the hair you want to be highlighted and bleach that part to be highlighted to make the high lights brighter since the rest of the hair will be black and then dye it with the red highlights .

that's what I did with my hair and it came out great I love it

absolutely not. Do not bleach your hair. Since you are only depositing color and not lifting your natural color to a lighter shade, bleach plays no part in that. What you need to do is put your main color in first, and then put the highlights in. Make sure you get a very very bright shade of red so that it shows up over black. they make red highlights that are specifically for black hair.

Yes,take the other poster's advice. Go to the costmetologist near you. You've got too many issues with different colors, and different types of hair colorings on your hair, then roots. Pay the money, see a proffessional. Once they get it a uniform color, then they can decide what route to take to get the highlights, which will take bleach, because haircolor won't make haircolor lighter. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!! YOU WILL BE SORRY!!
