I guess when you feel that he's noticing you. When a guy notices a girl you can see him concentrate a little more than usual on one girl. I suggest flitting a little. It wouldn't hurt anyone and the way he responds could indicate how into you he really is.

see if he calls. not like short calls to ask something like homework, his work schedule if you work together.. or something you know.
if he calls to see what you're doing and stuff means he's attracted to you. no guys just call girls for friendship at this age. It's either they want something more, or they wanna sleep around.
