Wow! What a profound question. I wish I could give you points for asking it!
Scientifically, when sperm and egg meet and fertilization occurs, you have a complete human being, genetically. But in a very, very, very early stage of development. But it's not horse DNA, or worm DNA, it's human DNA. And it's not like a hair cell or a skin cell, which is just a part of a human being, but a human - again, just at a very early stage of development. It does not look human at all (it is maybe the size of a period on this page), but science teaches us that it is. And people discussing these issues criticize those who they believe are "ignoring science." So I'd say at the moment of fertilization there is some life worth being protected. We were all zygotes once!!!
BUT -
I don't think that ends the question. The REALLY tricky part is that we balance competing interests in society all the time. You will rarely find a person who is "pro-life" on ALL topics - abortion, war, the death penalty, etc. For instance, in abortion, the interest of the woman who is already here in controlling her body is deemed by many to outweigh the interest in the potential human growing inside her, especially early on. And there are some people who are pacifists - who say war is ALWAYS wrong - but most people embrace the concept of "a just war" - sometimes war and the killing that goes with it is justified for self-defense or for the greater good. Lots of people who oppose the Iraq war think we were right to fight WWII for example.
So I would say, a human should have a right to life (an interest to be considered) from conception to death. BUT the right is not absolute, ever. If I wave a gun at a cop, he has the right to shoot me. Or if I commit the right crime in the right state, the state has the right to execute me. Abortion and stem cells are very different, but again society draws lines and makes decisions, rightly or wrongly.
Creepy stuff, huh?
:)
PS A FERTILIZED egg is different from an egg, or a sperm, alone. Even though I like Monty Python.
And not everything that's legal is right morally - definitely not, in my view.
But not everyone shares my views, and I could be wrong, so society is a compromise. Render unto Caesar. But keep your soul.

In my opinion, that right should be bestowed at the point when consciousness is achieved, or at birth, which ever comes first.
Since no-one knows when consciousness is achieved, and some research is showing it doesn't happen until several months after birth, I'm willing to defer to those most impacted - the mother primarily.
'at birth' is an arbitrary point, but so is any other point we might pick. After birth the mother's interests are no longer substantially greater than the interests of others, since the baby could be raised by someone else.
Admittedly, there is no fundamental reason consciousness should be the litmus test, it just seems to me to set a dangerous legal precedent for the rest of us if we allow it after that point. But I'd be willing to listen to arguments to the contrary.

When you are born, I consider us to be parasites untill birth. After your born, then you are a human. Till that point, just a growth inside.
In response to the question asked about me being happy about not being considered a parasite. If I had been, I would not be around to care at all :)

we are no longer Christ's disciples, and that fee of proclaiming the word is a at present finished prophecy (as said in Jeremiah 31:34). Jesus stated on the top of HIS ministry that we are now no longer His servants, yet rather His friends (John 15:14-15). So attempt no longer to imagine that you've a duty to rework all of us. Albeit i visit utterly keep in mind that you go with your individuals to have a courting with God as you've. it is only organic. problem about residing your own existence, Jesus gave a suitable analogy about nerve-racking about your own complications instead of putting ahead others (Matthew 7:3). And we'd want to continuously stay by using get mutually, people might want to seem at you for an get mutually of religion (matthew 7:20). Be your self with your pal, do not attempt do what Jesus did. Take Abrahams tale to heart. He gave up his newborn to God understanding that God may act righteously and mercifully thoroughly ignorant of how that could play out. Likewise you may want to act. Be your self, no man or woman else. and delivers your pal to God by using prayer (hebrews 13:15-16). I surely have stumbled on the accurate thanks to win situations like that is to be uniquely ourselves, yet one with God through Christ. It finally ends up being a non secular disaster when we commence pretending to be Jesus ourselves.

Every sperm is sacred...
There are Jews in the world.
There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons, and then
There are those that follow Mohammed, but
I've never been one of them.
I'm a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is:
They'll take you as soon as you're warm.
You don't have to be a six-footer.
You don't have to have a great brain.
You don't have to have any clothes on. You're
A Catholic the moment Dad came,
Because
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.
CHILDREN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.
GIRL:
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.
CHILDREN:
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.
MUM:
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.
MEN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
WOMEN:
If a sperm is wasted,...
CHILDREN:
...God get quite irate.
PRIEST:
Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.
NANNIES:
Every sperm is needed...
CARDINALS:
...In your neighbourhood!
CHILDREN:
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
FUNERAL CORTEGE:
God needs everybody's.
MOURNER #1:
Mine!
MOURNER #2:
And mine!
CORPSE:
And mine!
NUN:
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
HOLY STATUES:
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.
EVERYONE:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite iraaaaaate!
If you can cut it out of the mother, and it can live, it should. Period. What is that, third trimester?

I'm sort of split on this issue. I can see the valid points on both sides. I think the argument that a life that can't live without the body of another is a good one.

When a being can survive, with medical care if necessary, outside the host body. That's just common sense, and also Judaism's view.
