If you are new to doing this type of exercise, yes your muscles will be sore because they have been inactive for along period of time. This is normal. Please make sure that you start out slow and increase over a period of time.
Rome was not built in a day and nighter will your body jump into shape over night. Take small strides or baby steps and you will find your body will adapt with a lot less pain.

You don't say how old you are, how long you have been doing pushups, or how many you have been doing. If you've just started and whipped through a set of 25 or 30, yeah, you'll have sore arm muscles. You'll need to learn moderation, building up gradually, and stretching out after working out. This is especially important for shoulders.
If you've been working out for a long time and the sore muscles are recent, you may have pulled something or done a stress fracture.
Apply alternate heat and cold packs, stretch it out, and see if it improves in the next day or so. If not, get to a doctor and find out what you've really done. If it does get better, set up a new program that lets you make progress more slowly. In the long run, you'll make more progress than if you try to do it all of a sudden.
Good luck!

No, don't listen to that girl, you aren't over-working them. What happens when you exercise, your muscles start to strengthen, or some tear and you form new ones, which is why people are sore. I go to the gym every weekend and workout. You are okay, keep working out, but don't strain yoursel too much. If you just started working out, then you should only do it every other day, not daily, until you get used to it. Good luck!

It's normal, it means you have been doing them properly. Make sure not to strain or pull your muscles though. Make sure you gently exercise them abit later so they do not get stiff.

Lactic acid is released when you do them, that is why it hurts. But it's a good hurt... keep it up and it will go away after you do them consistently for a while.
