I don't have a lawn mower now because I live in an apartment, and the landlord or such mows the lawn for us.
Also, do you think that the landlord would notice if I trimmed the carpet? What was he thinking when he had such a thick carpet installed?!

No, I can't say it has mold...it's a pretty fancy place; so, the carpet was just installed right before I moved here. It's just to squishy for me, and it bothers me!

Use a riding lawnmower, save you time and energy. Or how about introducing mole crickets to your carpet and see if they will do the job for you.

Less costly than buying a lawn mower AND then having to move: buy a rug you like and lay it on top of the dreaded shag carpet. Want to make the whole carpet disappear and STILL not be evicted? Buy cheap indoor/outdoor carpeting, spread it out on top and cut to fit.You could even add some plastic daisies to the top for added effect.

Nikolai:
Sounds like a solution to me.
The landlord probably chose that high-pile carpet,
with the idea it would not show stains, dirt, as much
as the regular carpets. I feel for you; can you imagine
what is going on in that carpet?
So, if you mow it, wear a mask, and be ready to disinfect.
Then be ready to be sued by the Landlord, thrown out, or
asked to replace the carpet by the very same kind you are
staring at right now.
Have you asked him if he would change it for you?
If you are stuck with said carpet,
look for another place that will not
endanger your health!
All the best to you and your 'carpet' roommates....

Trimming or "mowing" your carpet could cause more problems. Fraying of the carpet strand could occur making apartment living even more miserable. Try talking to the land lord about repalcing it. Maybe tell hime your allergic to it, or there might be mold under it. Be creative and get your landlord to resove the problem.

Im a landlord.
Why would you trim the carpet? is it in the way or something
but, I wouldnt touch the carpet without his permission, cause you will be in violation of the contract/ lease agreement for destruction of private property, even though it might be minor.
if he notices, then he can terminate the lease and ask you to leave, if after your lease is up and he notices, he can refuse to return your security deposit.
I have tenants all the time try and do stupid stuff without my permission, usually there is a good explanation as to why things are the way they are .
Ask him and see what he says.
Contact me if you have any questions.

I think it would probabl work as long as you didn't have the lawn mower blades set down too low, you just want to trim it so make sure to check that before you start.

Yes i think you could do that if you would like. Well you should ask the land lord to lend you his lawn mower. He might notice it looking BETTER... lol : )

If your carpeting is green, you could just bring in some sheep to graze!
