If you recently entered the US with an immigrant visa, they stamped your passport with the legend, "Processed for I-551." I-551 is the form number of the green card. The card itself should come to you in the mail automatically, to the address on your immigrant visa, in a few weeks or months. In the meantime, the entry stamp in your passport will allow you to stay in the US, apply for an social security number, apply for a job or school, etc.
Congratulations!

It depends on what shade of green you like. Quickest way to get the color you like is to go to the Immigration office and they will let you pick the exact shade of green card that you think you would like to have. After that you will have 30 days to exchange it or return it altogether for a size 12 swift boot in the bum back to wherever you came from. Some Wal-Mart stores may be able to help also with the exchange/return part. If you call the Wal-Mart headquarters in the state of Arkansas they will help you big time. Do not be afraid to ask about the return part. They have some guys who are really good at bum kicking'. PS. Don't forget to bend way over when they ask about the bum kick, you'll get a much better ride for the money that way. What a neat country this place called the USA is. Don't you agree ??

My wife and 2 step kids are Canadian citizens and I have been married for 4 yrs and still working the process. It is a very long, complicated, and EXPENSIVE process. We did ours on our own but ran into a lot of problems which may be one reason it took us 4 years to get it done. After you get the green card you have to wait I think 8 years before you can become a US citizen. The process is faster is you are interested in joining the military though.

If you don't have a Green Card, you cannot be a legal immigrant.
I've been here for years, came legally, paid all taxes, have a college degree, but the laws don't admit people like me.
How do you expect to be just awarded a Green Card?
Did you win the lottery?

Immigration is EXTREMELY complicated. I went through the process with my wife--it takes many years, many forms, many trips to the USCIS. If you have any questions, contact an immigration lawyer. If you can't afford one, look for an immigration support service; many charities run them.
