Seriously, he will disappear, and we'll hear him crying or barking from the bathroom. He has crawled in and is laying there. He spends half the way just hanging out in the bath tub. The air conditioning is on or I would think he might be hot or something. He's a 4month old Golden retriever.

Yeah golden's shed their own hair, why would I cut it???

I think the last two are on the right track, but I might mention it to the vet anways. I think he cries in there because he likes being in there but wants attention there too.

That is his den, his safe place. Dogs need a place that they feel safe. This can work to your advantage. Do not ever scold or punish your dog while he is in there. Give him full access. He will not have any separation anxiety and he will be less likely to be afraid of storms.

He wants to play in the water? Fleas maybe and he know he felt better after a flea bath and this is where he got it? Try putting water in the bath tub and see what he does with just an inch or so. Try a play pool outdoors or a pond or lake he can go in. Don't force him of course, but try it and see what he wants. Other then that, no real idea.

Never cut his hair. Deb's on the right track with her answer. He's probably seeking an enclosed cool area that feels like a den to him. If he's crying or barking there instead of comfortable, it's difficult to say why w/o proper evealuation.

No, I do not think that it is weird. I have two dogs. A Lab, and a St.Bernard, and they will fight over who gets the tub! They both love the coolness in there. It's naturally cooler in our bathroom and the only place they will not pant as hard and can cool down. Because of how excited both of them get in water, we do not put water in the tub. Also is our St. Benard is always in the bathroom area because he is ALWAYS looking for water to replenish his drool supply. Maybe your dog is looking for water?

all dogs are weird....maybe he just likes the cold on his belly (from the ceramic) or maybe he likes the sound of the echo in the bathroom when he barks (or maybe he does NOT like the sound of the echo and is confused and thinks there is another dog there)
just let him do it, or shut the door to the bathroom.

I know of several dogs who will hide in the bathtub when stressed or frightened. Is he new to your house?

Maybe his hair density does not allow for airconditioning to be effective.

Try close trimming his har and he may change his habit
