From what I've read about Taosim, it seems to be a good way to live your life. But I try to steer away from organized religion, so is it possible to belong to a structured and communal from of Taoism without being innundated with religious thought?

Yes, Taoism is considered more philosophy. In fact many Buddhists are also Taoists, as are many Wiccans, Pagans, Asatuars, and some Christians I know.

It's more of a philosophy. It gives you a different outlook on the world without indoctrinating you.

LIke a lot of Asian religions, there is a philisophical practice and a religious practice. You can take your pick.
