Many kneejerk opinions, but no one looked it up.

Some studies show that men score higher than women in tests of general cognitive ability (IQ tests), but others have not. SAT scores, perhaps biased, show a significant trend to score males higher than females.

The best study probably was that of Richard Lynn who found that men averages 3-4 IQ points higher than women in the most general cognitive testing; this was later published in a major journal alleging that the difference between men and woman was 3.3-5 IQ points, once again men higher. This Jan 2005 study was criticised as flawed, but no better study has replaced it, or contradicted it.

Before I am deluged with email, let me point out that several studies find women earn higher gradwe point averages, and that women may test better in certain memory functions. Women outnumber men in US univeristies and colleges.

IQ's vary from person to person. It makes no difference whether you are male or female. There has been a lot of research into what causes a high IQ. Some think it may be genetic, others think it may be environmental. This is one of the great questions of the world.

I think what you are really trying to ask is who is smarter, men or women.

The answer is neither, but statistically each group has areas it excels in.

Men tend to excel in spatial related activities.

Women tend to excel in language related activities.
