Washington,billed the federal government $50 million dollars? She said that almost 1,000 of the inmates in prison,are ILLEGALS,and she wants the U.S. government to send her a check for $50 MILLION dollars to cover the cost of keeping them!! She says it's coting the TAXPAYERS of her state, $76.75 a DAY for EACH inmate! SEE, just millions more WASTED on these criminals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's some facts:
In October 2004, the Department of Corrections (DOC) submitted its 2005 Supplemental Operating Budget Request to the Governor's Office of Financial Management (OFM) for consideration. This is the Department's proposed change to the spending plan that began on July 1, 2004 and ends on June 30, 2005. The total budget request is $16.6 million over current funding levels. The budget request accounts for changes such as caseload, medical inflation, and new legal mandates. The Supplemental budget is based on the November 2004 offender population forecast that is produced by the Caseload Forecast Council.
I didn't see anything that mentioned illegals.

I agree 100% that this is a waste, but I don't understand why the governor is trying to pay for this with Federal tax dollars (she's trying to save Washington residents money by asking everyone else to pay more). I'm no international law expert, but I don't understand why Washington wouldn't just deport them instead, then no one pays. I think some lawmakers like to make examples out of illegals who commit crimes by jailing them (which is valid), but if that's the case, they should pick up the bill.
This is the exact situation a guest worker program would solve, because there would be a consequence for those who screw up. Now we effectively treat them all as criminals, whether they're here to work and stay out of trouble or here to rob and murder. There's no real motivation to follow laws if you're already regarded as a criminal.

Your such a busybody, why don't you get a life?....Why don't you volunteer or something, give back to your community instead of spreading the politics of fear and loathing.
Oh and since this governor is so set on billing the federal govt. for illegal inmates sucking up the system, is she going to be billed for allowing all the illegals entry into her state and not enforcing her state's laws?

Did u know that many illegals do pay taxes & never claim them for fear of apprehension. did u know this money goes into an account called the "earnings suspense file" & is 10% of the social security surplus & counting. BTW that number is growing by MORE than $50 BILLION DOLARES a YEAR!!!! I GUESS they'll be paying for ur retirement & benefits. so u better play NICE on the borders.

The individual states are doing what the federal government is unwilling to even address . I think that is a step in the right direction,soon there will be a majority of states which will not tolerate criminal trespassers.
Once the criminals are seriously shown that they are no longer welcome wherever they go in AMERICA, they will have little choice but to leave, or go to California.

I did hear about this, but it's old hat as far as I'm concerned. The sheriff of Butler County OH had already sent a bill to the feds for holding illegals in "his" jail.
